Advice on 30d X3 Heat coming from transmission tunnel

Advice/Experiences

We used my wifes X3 for a long journey 500 mile round trip.

I noticed heat coming from the drivers side (uk) transmission tunnel, the bit below the centre console, its the bit that my leg rests on, foot rest side.

The heat was prolonged and quite intense, any ideas please

sorry if my explanation isn't great

Hi 13 NF.....to be honest I have not done that prolonged mileage in one go...but last week did a 250 mile trip towing my caravan from the NW (Lancashire) to Devon and did not notice any heat from the drivers side below the centre console and at the time I was wearing shorts...if that info helps.

Thanks, my journey too, was from NW to Christchurch, i am wondering if its a heat shield issue, doing the same journey this week, will be interesting if its reproduces.
Thanks for your reply

it was mentioned here somewhere, that it can be from the transmission. I'm not sure, if I remember it correctly.

We’ve got an 800 mile round trip next month so I’ll watch out for this!

Didn't someone else post on here that they noticed this happening and it turned out the heat for the rear was on?

Hi The heating from the rear, it's a really good point, my children mention they had put the heat to Maximum on the journey home, which is when I noticed it.
I will try and reproduce this again at the weekend
Really good info thanks

Hi,
Same happened on our ML63 and it was simply the heat being directed to the rear passenger heater control console!
Cheers
Steve
