Summer holiday road trip in LCI X3MC. NJ->PEI->Nova Scotia->NJ

Warning: Tons of Blue F97 LCI pics

Decided to start a thread about our road trip to Eastern Canada, driving our few months old X3MC and share some car pics and experiences.

Day 1.

Left Northern NJ around 6:00AM and entered Canada from eastern Maine 12 hrs later with many food/gas/rest stops.
The driver seat is pretty broken in around 1700 miles and no longer stabbing me on my left thigh vs. when brand new.
Finally averaging 20mpg and 400 mile range on full tank vs merely 12mpg 270 mile range on my daily driving.
My back and butt are surprisingly OK after driving in sports seats of an M car for 12 hrs plus. No complaints from the family as well

The car is fun to drive long distance. Used the cruise control only after entering Canada. The car play stopped working immediately after the border and then came back some time later. Had to use the car's GPS for the first time and it was really good with voice activated hotel, city, country name. Heads up display shows when the next exit is coming which is not available via carplay using google maps/wazes.

Took these shots at first stop on Hutchinson Pkwy gas station because was too excited when leaving home and forgot and it was too dark anyway.
Haven't washed the car in 2 weeks almost and looked pretty good with light dust. The forecast called for entire day of rain on day2. Noticed that after using a $20 spray on ceramic wax during car washes there is less dust.

Do you know the speed rating on those roof boxes? Hit triple digits few times to drop some tailgaters.

A buddy of mine with an X5 offered his but I like to travel fast especally with this beast.

Day 2:
Leaving Saint John, Canada to Prince Edward Island.

Been raining all night into afternoon. All the dead bugs were gone from the front end in the morning. The wax on XPEL must have worked. Did not use the windshield wipers that much thanks to DynoFLex film with wax on it. Switched the display units to km.
First fuel stop in Canada and max octane is 91 even at a Shell station.

DAY 3: Summerside to Charlottetown:

Washed the car at a touchless automated car wash. Came out OK but lower panels were still somewhat dirty. (Wife and kid complaning at this moment about the delay and why wash it cause rain forecast in 2 days)

awesome, i just came back from an opposite road trip, NY > KY > TN > NC > Blueridge parkway all the way back up. Have fun! I also often have back and tailbone issues but with this car driving every day for nearly 2 weeks was perfectly fine. I think i racked up about 3500 miles on my trip.

Day 4: (Aug 16 2022)

Leaving Charlottetown and then Prince Edward Island.

Picture in front of St Dunstan's Basilica, followed by Cows Creamery Factory for custom t-shirts and other souvineours. Hit a couple of beaches near south east of the island and then caught the 5PM ferry to Nova Scotia(Wood Islands to Caribou).

Was a bit nervous about about getting a dent from being packed like sardines in the ferry but made it out OK. The ferry saved about 3-4 extra hours of driving and it was nice to relax and enjoy the sun on the deck.

The drive an hour south of Sydney on Rt 4 to that town was excellent. Think scared off many locals in all sport+ mode while passing on single lane roads. So many twisties and rollers with an amazing sunset was the highlight of the day with a rainbow at the end!

Day 5 Sydney to Cheticamp via Cabot Trail (8/17/22)

Overnight rain continued into afternoon. Skipped on hiking plans and stopped by scenic look outs, beaches and water falls. The rain stopped around 5pm to let me enjoy some of the best twisty roads I've driven anywhere.

Tip: If ever travel this way make sure to fill up before driving here if you are in sport+ mode guzzling fuel. Saw a sign saying no gas for 50km and then a small gas station with a single pump that sold only 87 octane only.

Drive from Cheticamp to Truro for Tidal wave rafting. Supposedly the only place on earth where it can be done when the tide rises up to 30 ft within an hour or so .

Pics are from Cheticamp and then at Inverness beach

Been back over a week but was busy with work / life / bills etc. Going to add some threads to close out the trip.

Day 10, Drive to Blue Rocks for a 3 hr kayak tour from outskirts of Halifax with a quick souvenir shopping stop in Lunenburg. Highly recommend kayaking at Blue Rocks, made up of small inlets with calm water and beautiful scenery.

Wanted to stop at the famous Oak Island (History Channel) but found out that some people bought the island last year, made it private and closed it off for tours

Day 11,
All day drive from Bridgewater to Digby along the coast heading SE, S, SW. Stopped at Kejimkujik Park's seaside section. Whole family got bit like crazy by some vicious mosquitos even with repellent on. Bit me through my shirt, so avoid!

Many town names are from UK such as Liverpool, Brooklyn , Shelburne and Yarmouth among others along the way. Stopped outside of Liverpool for a quick lighthouse visit.

Another stop few hours later North of Yarmouth for another lighthouse visit Took a picture next to someone's house towards to LH. Spoke to the owner. The husband collected these colorful buoys from the sea while kayaking and made this mosaic wall. Overcast skies did not do justice in the pic.

Saw this 50 ft long Fin whale skeleton on display near the lighthouse. Boat builder found it in 2006 off an island. Brought it piece at a time on hist boat. After displaying it himself donated it to Yarmouth town.

Day 12 ,

70km (43.5miles) drive to Brier Island with 181 local residents from Digby for a day trip to take a Whale watching tour. Had to take 2 car ferries each way. Been told local kids have a 90 min commute each way to school. I told my kid going to bring it up whenever she starts to complain about her 15 min commute to school.

Saw at least 5-7 different humpback whales and felt their snot DNA up close.
Visited 2 different lighthouses on the Brier Island and a wild sea lion colony. Lost count of lighthouses visited at this point.

Return back to Digby via same 2 ferriers. Tried out some large scallops which Digby is famous for.

Day 13, Time to head back home.
Self washed the car at one of these coin operated self car washes that I found in pretty much in every town visited. S2 CAD gets you about 2-3 mins. Wish have similar car washes close to where I live where it is full of hand wash places with same dirty water and mittens and scratch the crap out of cars.

Jumped on a big ferry as big as a cruise ship that runs between Digby and Saint John CA twice a day. The trip is relaxing 2.5 hrs and saves 6 hrs of driving.
Stopped overnight in southern Maine to split the drive home.

THe day after coming home gave her a nice wash.

Final random thoughts.

Noticed that Canadian drivers are great for most part. No one hoggs the left lane except for few that could have been American tourists lol and no one speeds excessively. The max speed limit is 110kmh(68.3mph) but some drive 120-130km.

Have seen maybe one or two state troopers in Canadian highways and both were not setup on the side of the road to take their cut for the govt that I am so used to here in NJ.

Max octane was 91 with some places in rural areas at only 87!. Even in Northern Maine it was 91 octane max for some reason.

Drove just under 3000 miles in my barely broken in X3MC in 14 days. Glad to make the entire journey without a scratch. Noticed one tiny mark on the Dynoflex film outside that protects the windshield.
I finally got 400 miles a tank highway driving. The suspension and the seats were great for a sports SUV without expecting 7 series plush ride. There were no complaints from the family members in regards to stiffness of the car or the seats comfort quality. The passing ability on single lane highways were exceptional. Had to pass 18 wheeler trucks so many times.

Now it's time for this beast(nick named after Xmen character Beast for the blue color and M power) to settle down for Costco visits and bike transporting until winter snowboard season.

I actually think 91 is more common than 93. We are just blessed to have 93 in NY/NJ. Loved the thread btw
