Evaporative Emission Control extended limited warranty letter

Did anyone receive a letter recently from BMW corporate explaining that they were providing "Important Limited Warranty Information" related to the evaporative emission control system's purge valve? I just got one, presumably related to my X3 however the VIN listed in the letter isn't the VIN of my X3 (or my i4 for that matter).

I have gotten other "Important Limited Warranty Information" letters for example regarding the Radiator grille air/vent flaps and in those the VIN was correct.

I received the same letter. My VIN was also incorrect. Waiting for a call back from BMWNA.

Yep, same here. I received the letter yesterday, didn't even notice the VIN was incorrect until I called the local dealer this morning and the guy said the warranty is not extended for the 2018 X1. I want to know why it's not extended for this model because I do have a rough idle when I start the car and it even cuts off sometimes. Going to reach out BMW NA to check.

Yes! I received two of these letters (we used to have two 2019 X3s, now down to one). I called BMW NA and they said it was a mistake. As you might imagine, my concern was that my information might be tied to two BMWs that I do not own. While I had the customer service agent on the phone I asked her to confirm I was not tied to those vehicles and she was able to confirm.

Quick update on this, I called BMW on 800.831.1117 and they confirmed it's a mistake. They want people to call in so that they can track and fix the issue. Looks like people with similar models are getting the letter. Apparently not all 2018 X1s are included in the extended warranty and mine is one of them.

Initially I called the number on the letter and was put through to record a message. Just called 800.831.1117 per wijepus post and got through. You have to keep asking for an 'agent' to get a person.

The agent explains that they are aware of the mistake and apologizes, and then checks your VIN to see if your X3 is impacted by the EVAP Purge Valve issue. Mine was not.

As wijepus noted, they do want you to call in if you received the letter with a wrong VIN since they are tracking the problem.

I just got the same letter and wrong VIN # . This is the second letter I got involving Emissions system . The first one was for the NVLD , Leak Diagnosis Module , which had the correct VIN .I’m going to try and reach out to them tomorrow. I did the VIN decoder and the X3 build date for this one it was 9/5/2018 & mine was 4/5/2018 . Will see if mine is involved. Thanks for the info .

No letter for me, for either my X3 or i4.

I had one with a W….. VIN. I assumed it was for my previous F30 and threw it out.

I’m pretty sure the VIN’s that have a “W” are built in Europe.

If I were to guess, US destination cars get the 5UX VIN while international get the WBA VIN.

I just know that I begin with 5UX and therefore that VIN must’ve been from a different car I owned.

I thought the same , I thought it was my 2013 X3 . When I did the VIN decoder it was a 2018 X3 30i , had a completely different list of options but the same year as mine .
