Hi,

I've increasingly noticed over several months, a slight forward movement or jerk when coming to a slow stop. Eg when in traffic. It is intermittent and mainly happens when the car has been stood a while, so cold etc

At first I thought a brake problem but all my pads are relatively new with plenty of wear left. Discs also in good condition

When I google this fault, it seems there are reports relating to transmission down shifting and/or transmission fluid. It's possible there are different reasons for this problem

My car is in the garage in a week or so anyway so wanted to ask them to look at this but would prefer to go with some additional insight. Hence this post. I do have full warranty but sometimes they get concerned about looking for intermittent problems

Therefore any experience of this and possible causes/fixes would be appreciated

Discs and pads *might* still be a thing, I'd give it a couple good hard stops from some decent speeds (in a safe environment of course). Not quite a full brake bed-in procedure but be a little rough on them. Just to be sure there aren't any areas with more pad deposit than others.

If that's it, it usually shows up as feeling like warped rotors and would be at low speed coming to a stop, but not right at it. And it's more of a slowing effect than a jerk forward. So it's unlikely this is the cause, but it's a free check you can do yourself.

Otherwise... sorry no idea.

Thanks. My first thoughts were the discs but they look ok. However visual appearance may not show a problem

does it feel like its slowing down in stages? like if you press the pedal at a certain point and hold it in that position, does it seem to increase in stopping power in stages? mine is doing that too but intermittently. thinking might be something to do with the "hold" function and how the brakes are applied electronically when that feature is in use.

Not that I've noticed. It only seems to happen at the point before I come to an actual stop.

It didn't do it today but I did try the hard braking/emergency stop etc to see if that helped clear the pads early in my journey. It's possible this has helped. Too early at the moment

The other thing I think I've noticed is that the problem is more pronounced when the eco mode is selected

Hmmm and how many miles do you have on the odometer? Also when you check the vehicle status on the dash, how many miles does it say left until service is due on each axle?

I have got a similar problem with my e87, 120i, automatic. Exactly the same problem. I took it to BMW dealership and they said something on the rear brakes functioning more than the front brakes. Then they also said that they looked at the transmission, the oil was low, they top it up and reseted to start a new learning cycle. Check the car again on the road and issue seem to disappear. These are exact words from their report. After 1week of driving, the problem came back. I feel and suggested th rear brakes were the main issue. I did perform an abrupt harsh braking once, but did not see anything or follow up on this yet. I will repeat the stopping just to evaluate if the rear pads are good.

One funny thing is that, I now reset my transmission by myself using Carly connect. Whenever I do this, the jerking problem vanishes. But after 1 week of driving it comes back. I have noticed that the car ones me to drive it slowly like a grand mother for the transmission to take timw to learn. But after it learns and I go for sport modesand stops abruptly the main problem comes again.
