Hi All,

I bit the bullet and decided now to wait for the 2022 X3 and take delivery next Friday of a 2022 M40i. I currently have a 20d Msport, so I am really looking forward to getting a proper engine!

I am in the process of removing the cosmetic mods (grilles, splitter, etc etc) from my current car to transfer onto the new one. However I want to get an x3m style rear diffuser for my new car and fitting it myself.

I was just wondering if you guys that have already done this have any tips on how to remove the current diffuser? Does it come off easy easily, or do you need to remove the rear bumper?

Any help would be much appreciated! 👍🏻

Sorry for the delay. Bought the diffuser on Aliexpress for $180 and also went with a quad exhaust tip because I like how aggressive it looks. I had to cut the PDC holder in ordered to make it fit and they came out flush. I posted a pic where I cut it. I recommend unplugging the sensor from the car, use some painters tape to mark which sensor goes on right and left, and using a brand new razor blade (they can easily break if you use a knife) and use both hands to push straight down, it’ll cut like butter.

I Like the quad pipe look too, do you have any pics of the underside showing how the quad pipes are fitted?

Also curious about the tail lights. I see the inner lights are black, is this tint? Why have you not done the same on the outside rear lights? I was thinking of tinting my rear lights slightly, and maybe the headlights, or just the top of the headlights. Anyone don’t this as not sure if I should or not?

Here’s the link for the exhaust tips on AliExpress. It took a solid two months to get. I included a pic of my conversation on the measurements. So when I measured the exhaust, I had only measured the left side thinking they would be the same. They were not. You can see in the pic, the left side fit snug as can be. The right side was not, but that didn’t matter. I brought it to a muffler shop. Had them cut out the old tips and weld on the new ones for $40. After I got home, I used Permatex Muffler sealer to seal off the right side’s gap. With the weld and sealer, it’s not coming off. You can see how much space is left between the exhaust and the bumper, you don’t want it touching.

Side note: I also told the Aliexpress seller to make a left and right side exhaust.

Anyone who has swapped out the rear diffuser - a lot of you look like you did it about a year ago. How is it holding up, still durable? Paint quality still good?

Yeah sorry the M40i didn't last long at all… 6 weeks. 😬

I have the X3M now, so I never ended up doing the mod.
