X3 M40i delivered!
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Update: October 27, 2017 Will have a chance to share more in-depth information, but our M40i is now settled in the garage next to our 2015 LCI X3 35i, so am just now getting a chance to see the additions to the thread since this morning. As this is my wife's X3 she drove it home and I lead the way in the LCI. About a 25 minute drive, and I've got to say the rear view mirror presentation is impressive and looks formidable and expressively confident, but not overly aggressive. If on the Autobahn I would definitely pull to the side if this was approaching at the high speeds it can easily reach. We spoke on the phone as we went, and she lagged behind a bit to be able to assess acceleration at different points. A different animal for sure she shared. And cornering and handling, once again, a different beast from what we 2nd Gen Drivers have sensed. The technology is now leaps and bounds above what we have had in the 2nd Gen. And although 25 minutes doesn't allow full comfort with the new offerings, they (BMW) kept enough of the previous Gen's ergonomic mannerisms around to make the transition appear seamless yet inspiring. Although a more in-depth discussion with photos to be shared, one point on the tires which many have raised. As stated earlier, no doubt the 21" are beautiful additions to the aggressive appearance and make an absolute statement to the aesthetics of the G01. And to many of the M Drivers out there, it would seem this might be the tire of choice. But if a more comfortable ride is desired in metropolitan/rural/or otherwise regions where roads may not be as well kept, the standard 19" Performance series may be a reasonable compromise, as she definitely sensed more road defects on the 19" Performance tires when compared with the All Season 19" RFTs she was used to on her LCI (as would be expected with a Performance set). On the other hand, some could argue why purchase a vehicle with this prowess to keep it tamed? No argument there, just sharing that this is what this G01 will now allow - fully utilitarian for some, pure driving passion for some, and for others, an in-between. Some photos: More photos throughout thread... |

Not sure about acceptance date yet - still one more hurdle to figure out, right?
They were very kind to send a few photographs, which I'll share. I hope to provide more in-depth images once we have her in our driveway! But this is definitely one I'm waiting to drive, and suspect it will be an amazing Interstate traveller and able to handle any on-ramp a city can offer. |

I have to think BMW hit this G01 interation out of the park, or at least a close one. They've kept the sizing most of us in this segment require, yet they have now raised the bar with the luxury and performance which many were needing. A competitive segment in the Auto Industry for sure! One more picture - coming off the Delivery transport: |

Hopefully Max Well gets early access, I get the feeling we will get a lot of info out of him!
So how long was it from production completion to arrival at dealership? And how far are you from Spartanburg? Southeast means you're probably pretty close? |

YESSSS I'm so happy to see pics of an actual production model.. Do you mind if I ask when you first ordered this? It's been about 2-3 weeks for me and I still haven't received any production date so I'm guessing I won't see mine for a long while.
And the dealer couldn't take a pic of the cockpit and the steering wheel to put the talk to rest as to any wonderment on what wheel was delivered? Thanks so much for sharing. I've been waiting to see pics of cars people ordered!! |

I did call the BMW Genius line about a week ago and they told me to call back since there was no confirmed date yet. Do you think they would know? I'll call my dealer tomorrow to ask anyway. |

Actually I’m wrong. I just noticed my production week isn’t on my order sheet. Now I’m wondering where I learned mine. |

Yes, I have the order build sheet that was printed when the order was placed. I don't see a week number, though. Maybe there was none yet when this was printed and since then it's been updated? There are fields on this sheet with no data as well.

Well, at any rate mine was placed 9-22, was in status 112 at that time, and started production yesterday. Hopefully that gives some perspective you can compare to.

Ok, this does help. It does say 112 on this sheet as well and mine was placed about 1-2 weeks after yours, so it gives me a lot of perspective. Thanks!

Chronology of the Ordering/Delivery process: Order placed around 15 Sep; Production started Wednesday 11 Oct; Production completed Friday 20 Oct; Released to the Carrier Tuesday 24 Oct; Arrival at Dealership Thursday 26 Oct. We’re in the Southeast, about 400 miles away as the crow flies. AUS1969 being in Atlanta is about 175 miles direct line per GoogleEarth. Suspect bwcooper (in Montgomery TX) should be hearing today or tomorrow from his Dealership, but that is where it might be more difficult to assess as it is then up to Carrier routes and scheduling. Kind of like making popcorn on the stove top – you wait and wait and one or two start popping and before you know it, multiple forum members will be seeing their new G01s rolling into their Dealerships! No on the spare tire, as we will always want to use RFTs and I use the space for tools and supplies. And I'll get you full details on the steering wheel once I get a chance to actually see our G01 in person. |

BEAUTIFUL!
love the color and congrats but 19" wheel dont do justice with the aggressive lines of G01. 20" wheel would fit just right. i dont know if its the angle of photo but front wheel looks pushed in. Wheels are just aesthetic compare to all new features. enjoy in good health!! |
