Wow, actually on the repair order from the first repair there was no mention of them doing anything with the shark fin, but apparently, they did. The Service Advisor actually said he was surprised it hadn't blown off as I was driving!

This time they replaced the emergency battery and TCB again, as well as replacing and sealing the antenna. I still have 11 days to go on my warranty, so there was no charge and there should still be a warranty on the previous repair. But if there was no warranty and I had to pay out of pocket this would have cost just over $1200.

I found it interesting that they had all these parts in stock -- back a year ago they had to order them -- it makes me think that they are seeing this issue a lot.

The attachment is that part of my invoice:

Had my battery replaced recently under BMW goodwill (after a quote of £376), so it's always worth asking. Car is 5 years old.

Hi. Looks my TCU has also failed. Anyone know how to remove it? Looks like it’s just stuck on? Also I can’t seem to remove the connectors with out removing my finger nail.

Battery terminal and the on on the TCU look corroded. FFS. Also out of warranty.

I would send a picture but can’t seem to figure out how when using on my phone?

Thanks much for the explanation. I just wonder as a new G05 2020 CPO owner if you have any suggestions on how to prevent shark fin leak from happening. I read somewhere that the shark fin paint issue was resolved for G05 manufactured after 2021 or 22 (don't remember exactly the date). Not saying mine is leaking already. but trying to be preventive on expensive cost of repairing it later. Maybe some outdoor silicon glue around the shark fin edge? I know it wont look perfect but doubt anyone will notice it.

No. I don’t suggest doing anything unless you physically remove the shark fin and check the surface and reseal it yourself. Do not put silicon around it or any adhesives.

got it. thanks for the advice. do you think I should bring up my concerns to dealership and have them to do some tests before my manufacture warranty expires in 4 months since this is a known issue? I read in another post that CPO warranty does not cover water damage though it is caused by shark fin leaking.

Mine was repaired/replaced under warrantee about a year and half ago. Was not real happy how the sealant showed at the time (but did not complain). Now it looks even worse as time has turned the ooze out white. The dealer sent it out to local auto body shop for paint and adhere work.
Overall HAAPY that its not leaking!

Warranty can’t really do anything because there is no problem. If you really want to, get some soapy water and spray it around the shark fin. Close all your doors and windows and put your fan on max speed. Open and close a door very hard to overpressure the cabin. If there is a leak you should be able to see bubbling around the shark fin where air is leaking out.

Definitely didn’t use windshield glue which is the proper way… no idea what they used because windshield glue is dark black eurethane essentially.

hi thanks much again for the tip and sorry for late reply. Somehow the thread did not alert me with new replies though I set up email notifications. I will try your trick since I am curious. Agree it is hard to press warranty since there is not a problem yet. That's why I am thinking if there is anything relatively easy I can do to prevent the costly issue.

Well this has just happened to me. I got the dreaded error message today. It also happened to a buddy's X5 about a month ago.

Service appointment for Monday.

Emergency call system not available - dripping water

Returning to the car after an earlier drive of a couple of miles I got the message "Emergency call system not available" when I started the car up, as I drove off drops of water started to come out of the plastic unit above the mirror.

Temperature had been down to -5c overnight and presume the water is from condensation rather than a leak. I don't have a pano roof.

Anyone seen anything like this before?

Same issue

I am seeking help as my 2019 X3 no longer has warranty at the dealer.

I investigated many blogs on this subject and here are things I’ve done so far:

1. Used Bimmerlink to diagnose the car.
CD0600: Ethernet unexpected Llink down
D916C3: CAN message, emergency call status(ST ECAL): Time-out
E114C8: Message (status emergency call, 0x2C3) missing, receiver KOMBI, transmitter telematic-ECU
E1C440: reset
E1C600: Ethernet: communication error ( link abort)
E1C603: Ethernet: communication error (link abort) due to control unit reset
031782: SIF: Online

2. Exchanged the battery. The original part number was 936167803. The new one is 84102447710. (This part number was verified by the dealer)
The old battery had no voltage reading. The new battery had 7.7 volts.

3. Used bimmerlink again to delete error

Problem is not resolved.

I called the dealer and asked for their advice. They told me to pay $280 to get their diagnosis. They said my diagnosis is not good enough and will not warrant their repair. Their quote to replace the battery was close to $1000! More reason I want to repair this myself.

I believe the second step is to replace the TCU unit. Checking the eBay listings, I realized there were similar types to my model.
My model: ATM-01-R2-US-4G
Pls advise if I should be looking for this model number or if the following models are also compatible.
ATM-01-R2-CHN-4G (China?) originally from 7 series
ATM-01-R2-CHN-4GW (China)

I understand that after replacing the unit, it has to be programmed. Can I do this my self? Or will someone do this for me (will a local garage do this? Do you think the dealer will do this ? How much will they charge me?)

Any advice from you will help me.

I've come up with this error and took on the job myself.

I have since replaced the Telematics Control Module, The Antennae itself, and the TCM Battery. I was able to successfully code the new module in esys which cleared the error. However I am still having issues with connected drive services working. I believe I need to have the IMEI/ICCID number updated in BMW's/Connected Drives' servers.

Does anyone know if this is possible short of going to the dealership or having the car fully programmed with ISTA.
