Went for a drive and played with the ASD settings. There are 4 settings:

1. Based on mode selected
2. Sporty
3. Balanced
4. Reduced

Sporty is loud and obnoxious. Balanced is obvious but less than sporty. Reduced I can't tell if it is on.

In setting #1, sport mode = sporty, comfort = balanced and eco = reduced. I just set it to reduced all the time.

I wonder if the iDrive 6 ASD is the same as Balanced in iDrive 7? If so, I can tell why people want to disconnect it. And sporty ASD in iDrive 7 gave me a headache immediately.

Cool, thanks for the comprehensive post.

I will set to Reduced when mine arrives and hopefully if BimmerCode can access the module, there might be an "off" setting to disable it completely...

Can you let us know where this option is located in the iDrive 7 menu structure?

Will watch for some updates in the other posts and forums and see what updates come to the coding apps over the next few months.

Thx for update. Don't suppose you have much experience with '18 or '19 M40i. Can you tell me if HUD with ID7 has changed much? Do you see the tach or gear selection, for instance.. in any mode? Lack of it bothered me in previous versions with ID6.

You can select a sport display for the HUD that shows the tach as a bar scale at the top of the hud. It can be on all the time or just in sport mode, selectable in the menu. Doesn't show the gear selection, though.

I'm curious how this is labeled iDrive. Is it labeled as 'ASD' Setting or is it labeled as something like 'Engine Noise' setting? Wondering if this impacts more than just ASD. For example, does it reduce the RPM on cold start such that it is a quieter start. Also, if labeled as 'engine noise' (or similar) then it may explain why the lowest setting is "reduced" and there isn't an "off". "Reduced" may mean reduced engine noise such that ASD is in fact off?

It's under car settings, general (sorry for the sideways images). It does not reduce engine noise on start that I can tell. It is obvious when cruising down the road the change in cabin sound with no change in engine RPM.

corn18 Did you happen to get the Driving Assisted Plus package? I am wondering if the X3 will have the updated cockpit animations:

I do have DA+ but I don't have the option to activate that feature. I'm guessing we will be able to cade it once someone gets all the modules figured out with the 2020's.

I wonder if this only affects active sound or it will affect the physical muffler flaps as well?

I assume the driver eye monitor stuff didn’t make it into the MY20 X3 da+?

I don't see any options for it. Without the dash cam, not sure how it would work.

Just hooked up bimmercode. Just set default mode to adaptive and ASS to last selected. The great news is bimmercode can see the head unit ECU, so it is very likely we will be able to disable ASD once bimmercode does their thing.

Unfortunately, the disable legal warning code is in the head unit ECU, so will have to wait to do that as well.

Thanks Corn - appreciate you feeding back this info to the members here about it. Hopeful too that BimmerCode will be updated soon to fully disable ASD...

That’s what I was checking... I assume the camera isn’t in the dash?

The driver camera system would be right at the top of the instrument cluster for a DAP car, impossible to miss lol.

Anyone knows how long it takes from production to the time vehicle will be on the boat? Checked my VIN and it shows production date of 03Sep (assuming this is the date when production is completed?) so that was 2 weeks ago.

EDIT: Just found out from the dealer that it is status 165 now, last updated 12Sep.

The Bosporus Highway and Themis are well on their way towards Europe, with the Toledo and Victoria Highway also just departing from Charleston.

With four vessels steaming towards Bremerhaven, some of our Week 36 cars might be on those heading towards our collection dates in October...

Cheers Loch,

Here's hoping mine is on one of those.....got the "fully assembled" and "left factory" emails last Tuesday (10th) so ideally she's on the Bosporus Highway or Themis

The Bosporus Highway is approaching Brest on the French coastline with an ETA at Bremerhaven of Saturday.

Themis is off the coast of St John's in Newfoundland with an ETA at Bremerhaven on Wednesday 25th September.

The two other ships, Toledo and Victoria Highway are on their way too and will arrive respectively on 29th September and 27th September.

So hopefully most UK / European week 36 M40is will be on these vessels... here's hoping!
