I've owned the 6MT, 6AT (X5M), 8AT, and then DCT in my M3... Absolutely wouldn't want a manual. Not sure if you've driven the new X5M with the 8AT, but its set up to operate and act like the DCT..
Its absolutely amazing, almost as good as the real DCT... The technology and capabilities of the new transmissions are going to put the manual in the grave. I'm sorry to say that, but its a fact. Part of me is upset about it, but when I drive my M3, I don't miss the clutch pedal at all. Not sure what the X3M will be spec'd with, but I'm guessing it'll be the same setup as the F85/F86.

There's near zero chance BMW would put a manual transmission in a modern performance SUV. I don't see how there could be a substantial market for 6MT X3M.

Manual transmissions are still preferred in many European markets. Belgium and Switzerland are the exception. When I lived there, my 6MT M3 was a rarity - most were dual clutch. The mechanics preferred the 6MT.
BMW used to be an enthusiast's car. BMW dealers and garages were small. Now they are luxury shops. The cars range from luxury models to over-priced econoboxes - like most of F30 line. Cheap brakes, hard, cheap feeling plastic and electrical systems that fail in 4 years. I have driven BMW's for 27 years and am about to cancel an order because the marketeers have incompetently mis-described one thing after another. |

I can't see a 6MT in the new X3/4. I don't think its an option in the non M cars G01/02 so doubt we would see it in SAV M car format. M2/3/4 are the future for 6MT rather than the SAV market I'd say.
