Since the 'prescribed route ' usually doesn't change the next time the event occurs, they simply set up shop the next year, perhaps on a different part of the route. . |

Wow, Am I seeing things or are they only putting 265 width tires in the rear? If so, they need to take a lesson from AMG and the new GLC63/S - 305's IIRC!

A few random points from a Bimmer lover:
-I heard from an inside source roughly a year ago that the X3M/X4M needed to be dialed back as they were faster than the M3/4. That can be interpreted any which way, but perhaps the narrower tire profiles have something to do with that. -I'm personally coming from an X5 50i which has the worst stock suspension in any BMW in the world, but the interior is fairly luxurious and pleasant for commuting. I've lowered it and tuned it which helps. I've owned many M cars and understand the "diluted" comments as I've felt there has been an odd rivalry within BMW ever since the N54 cars came out. -Having also driven a loaner X3 35i from the dealer I can say I really didn't like the interior of that car which made me second guess the X3M. The dash issue will be hard to cope with coming from an $85k X5. I really hope that it's other elements outshine the interior cheapness.

As a daily driver I would take the X3M over the F90. In fact I was expecting the X3M to be more hard core but it felt a bit soft. this makes it the perfect commuter.

But we was specifically referring to the exhaust sound of the S58 vs S55, as it's a very contentious subject in the M2C section.. |

Exactly! My M2 has 265s... I trust BMW but 305s would make it look wayyy better (better performance maybe not).

Sadly, that's not a joke. Lack of M Seat Belts created delays...

So , you guys are saying that cars were manufactured in April and sat at the plant till June because the belts were missing 2 stripes?
Crazy. I was thinking - they are trying to buy more time to coincide with July/August 2020 year changeover and get the new tech installed. But it looks like the x3 M is going to be behind the regular x3 in technology - go figure. And why June 17? also no 2020 x3 price guide either. (all other models are out) |

New M2 driver here who had the opportunity to drive the x3m comp this afternoon at a local bmw m tour. Will need a replacement suv for the wife by year end and I was very excited about driving the x3m as i considered it a strong contender for a replacement.
Great looking exterior (front fascia more aggressive than standard but not much more aggressive overall than a x3 m40i). Interior was nice but a little overwhelming with all the buttons on the center stack. Exhaust was quieter than expected but once warm it opened up some more (aftermarket would fix that). The biggest disappointment to me was the initial turbo lag. Even tried a launch control and again until the power kicked in, it was a little disappointing. Everything else was typical m and the handling was great. Spoke to the rep after the drive and he confirmed the turbo lag and said that the car still was in break in mode (only 1100 miles) and would open up after that. Would love another go later on this year, and Im curious to hear more impressions before I make a decision. Just my .02 |

Since the full torque curve starts 1,000 rpm later that the M40i, the lag sounds about right. |

Good looking out in mention the lag, I'll make sure to take a note of that when I get to do my own test drive of it. |

Cars with bigger turbos will have more perceived lag than cars with smaller turbos like most every day cars have. That tuning gives the car more linear power up top. That's what you want in a real performance car as it will be more satisfying to rev it out. Commuter cars typically will have a lot of torque down low and drop off precipitously by redline which makes them feel anemic when you really wring them out. Without some type of mild hybrid or electric turbo technology, there's no way to get around those aspects of turbos. |
