SuperSprint downpipe w/metallic cat installed on X3M
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Just got back from SuperSprint's headquarters in Mantova, Italy where they swapped the factory ceramic primary catalytic converter on my X3MC at 600 cells per inch with their stainless steel HJS 200 cells per inch downpipe. I was very impressed with their operation in every aspect (staff knowledge, timeliness, and pricing). They were only an hour's drive from my house and needed to inspect a US spec F97/98. They offered me a 70 percent discount if I'd let them measure my US pipes. How could I say no? So, now that it's done what are my impressions? It is a bit louder than before with all the valves open in sport plus. Sounds quite nice but not obnoxious boy racer. With valves closed it sounds just like before, honestly. In fact, it might not be quite enough for me with valves open. I'm considering their secondary cat delete and H-pipe which replaces the resonator. I'll post a video of the cold start in this thread when I can grab a camera operator later. In the meantime, enjoy the before and after pics. Darker pipes are OEM (2k miles). Lighter pipes are the new SuperSprints. Tuesday i will remap the motor with an Italian specialist unless I decide to do the secondary cat resonator delete in which case I'll postpone a week. In the meantime, enjoy the pics. Updated with videos: Posted by acce98: Last edited by MrItaly; 11-29-2019 at 02:33 PM.. |

Nice.
Any chance that you have a video? How long does it take them to do the installation?

3 hours for the downpipes including cool down time with an external fan. They told me it took them 5 hours the first time. Mine is now their third F97/8 they've modded. I was thoroughly impressed with their artisan work. Anyway, the other exhaust components could be swapped out DIY with a lift and a little basic knowledge, but that primary catalytic converter is imbedded claustrophobically in that tight engine bay, not to mention the pre cat sensor is insanely difficult to reach but must be disconnected prior to removing the cat. Needless to say, I'm glad they handled that. I didn't take a video of the install as they didn't like me lurking under the car while they were working -liability, insurance, blah, blah, ok I get it. Once the owner came out and got friendly they did loosen up a bit and allow me under to snap a few pics. Their exhausts are completely hand crafted. Got a tour of the sprawling factory by the owner while he told me their history. Really interesting guy and an insanely informative, eye-opening experience. I'll post a photo of their frequently used jig library. These are just the largest ones the currently use often. The smaller jigs are kept indoors while the other thousands are stored a bit further from the factory floor but are all indexed for retrieval (like a library book).

You're really killing me with this, we need a video of it revving! Haha. The lack of sound is the only thing that I don't love about my F97. DP's were perfect on the F80, I'm hoping its the same thing here.

Supersprint makes good stuff. I expect the H-Pipe would make a significant difference. On my M5, when I added the X-Pipe on my M5, the sound was noticeably louder and somewhat deeper. Obviously different with this set up, and a 6-cylinder can sound only so deep and aggressive, but sounds like a significant improvement over stock.

Wow I'm impressed. My x4m is just not loud enough. I will say it sounds way better in the cabin than my M4 And M3. I did have an AWE non resonated and it made my car absolute joy and pleasure. I did reach out to AWE and they said nothing is in the works for an exhaust. I guess it's a waiting game from other players. Maybe bmw with an M performance one? I would def get this supersprint however I'm based in NY.

I called SuperSprint yesterday and confirmed my order. They're prepping the secondary cat delete for my US spec and H pipe like acce98. The only stock component left in the exhaust will be the rear pipes. Engine remap on Tuesday in the meantime with my stainless primary cat. Woot, woot!

[QUOTE=AlexFL;25521297]Yes, I can try to get that too before I add to the configuration in about 10 days with rear cat and resonator delete. I'll definitely post more vids once those are installed but will try for a street video in the meantime.
