First week reflections:
seemingly unlike the majority of posters on the forum I don't have an M40i or even an M40d.
I have the humble 2.0d (0-60 8 seconds) but this doesn't bother me. My average commute is a 40 minute journey to go 7 miles! Why did I get a diesel? Well I've had one for the last 17 years and the torque and corresponding pick up in speed wins over the asthmatic 2.0 petrol option all day long, there is very, very little lag and the auto box is a dream - not sure what the point of those flappy thing behind the steering wheel is. At motorway speeds the power and torque is enough to keep pace with the vast majority of other cars and although I admit to travelling 'quickly' I have no interest in racing anyone. My cars spec is 2.0d M sport with sport+ pack, visibility pack, folding mirrors and heated steering wheel in Phytonic Blue. I picked the car up last Monday and I love it! The Phytonic blue with the sun protection glass and 20" rims put it way above the Audi Q5 and similar competitors in the looks department (in my opinion). Three grown up kids seem happy with the rear legroom and space (coming from an F10 520d saloon previously) and the practicality and size of the luggage area has to be seen to be believed (including the massive under floor storage area). The high ride position gives a completely different view of the road but whilst the car does feel planted on the road I'm still a little nervous about throwing it into a corner the way I used to with the 5 series. I gave the car it's first wash on Saturday and glistening in the sunshine it looked fantastic. The 20" rims are a dream to clean, the first ever alloys I have had that don't seem to have a single hard corner or right angle meaning they are easy to clean and the wheels are big enough to get a sponge all the way around the inside of the rim. Washing the middle of the roof is a problem! I'm 5'9 but can't get near it with the sponge and balancing on the door sill isn't that easy either! I didn't dry the car but regretted it the next morning when I was greeted with horrendous water spotting (see pics), maybe too much shampoo? So I rinsed the car again and dried it off with a chamois, note it takes a long time to dry a car this big... 200 miles in and I'm being gentle with my 'newborn' but I know it won't be long until the temptation to switch to sport and floor it takes over. Can't wait to take it on a trip to the Swiss Alps later in the summer..... |

In the U.K. the configurator is up, the msport plus package no longer has the Harmon harden speaker included its been moved to the technology pack and shadowline has been added to the msport plus pack, you can no longer get adaptive suspension separately only with the msport plus pack, the dealer I was with the other day beat the best offer I had with carwow and said you can order it anytime by forward ordering or something. I’ve got an appointment with him tomorrow after work to probably place an order

Very nice!
My wife has the F25 20d. It's a great all round car. The new model must be even better! I agree about cleaning the 20" wheels. Easy to clean! This may help for doing the roof... https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8246361 |

Please do not mention the word 'Chamois' ever again.
Get yourself a proper drying towel, your paintwork will thank you and you'll be shocked how quick it dries the car. Nice colour by the way..! |

Congrats on the purchase, i too have the 20d which i think is great.
Seeing as we’re in the minority, i’d be interested to hear how your mpg is fairing? Mine is used for mostly town with some mway driving i’m averaging around 31-32 - and thats being quite light on the throttle. I also have the electric folding mirrors and noticed the passengers side doesn’t dip when in reverse - tried flicking the switch to both sides, no joy. Does yours dip? Thanks |

My commute to work is often more stop-stop than stop-start, we have the most useless traffic department in Manchester City Council obsessed with bus lanes (partial), cycle lanes and overly long periods of traffic lights sat on red in all directions. They fail to recognise that much of the congestion and air quality problems are a result of their own polices instead of allowing traffic to flow more freely. ...sorry, rant over...... Yes I have the dipping passenger mirror, still trying to workout if I like it/need it as dont tend to parallel park much. |
