MHD Tune Questions

Hey all so I finally got an android phone and ive heard some good things about this tune so I want to give it a shot. I have a bms intake on the car, it doesnt make as much of a woosh sound as i'd hoped and put some michelin PS +3 on, but not looking to do any other mods to the car.

Can someone recommend if i should go for the stage 1 or stage 2 map packs tune, will I also have to purchase a license for the flasher module? Any cool tweaks or tricks i should know of? My transmission doesnt shift that great and I've seen some people talk about a tune for the transmission as well. Thanks in advance.

Bootmod3 is another option and is a little easier to handle and understand than MHD is IMO. Bootmod3 also has a free transmission flash that may help transmission shifting. Since you have a mostly stock car, you're going to want to run Stage 1. Stage 2 is for cars with downpipes and a FMIC.

Id recommend putting an aftermarket metal chargepipe on the car. The OEM plastic ones like to explode when you throw more boost at them.

^^ This. Stay with stage one, and consider upgrading the charge pipe. I know MHD has free maps for the N55, but I haven't flashed any of my N55s yet so I don't know for sure, but I am pretty sure you have to buy the map pack to do the flash.

Also consider changing out all spark plugs and coil packs as a preventative measure.

Solid advice right here. I have bootmod3 as well and love it. Not knocking MHD in any way since I have no experience with them, but now that bootmod3 has the trans flash included it sweetens the pot even more!

Definitely get the charge pipe it is guaranteed to fail.

You know, I haven't even really looked into BM3, I am gonna have a look and see what its all about. Since the X3 is so difficult I haven't ruled out anything yet.

Whoa! The n55 f series is $595. The mhd flasher is is $250 and stage 1 is $95. I like that you can use an iPhone too but that's pretty pricey

Yes, bm3 is more expensive. IMO, a tune is not the best thing to cheap out on. I went with bm3 because I heard how unwieldy MHD could be and a few friends of mine blew up their N55s while running MHD. I heard nothing but good out of bm3 thats why I went with them, despite the cost. I hear MHD customer support is useless, on the contrary, BM3 answers all of my questions seemingly instantly. Plus, there is someone on this forum (sorry I forget your name!) that is getting an OTS E30 map made because he brought it to bm3's attention that it was not available for X3.

I am not trying to sell you anything here I am just sharing my experiences. You're free to choose which ever you like, just to me bm3 is much more simple and easy to understand.

in audi world, the cheapest is the safest and the expensive one is the most problematic.

Also Ive searched for some review on the MHD, and beside flashing problem with cheap android device or cheap cable, I didnt see anything wrong with the stage 1 files.
I've asked MHD the price in cad$, they didn't aswered me clearly, they said the conversion will be made. But can't see the price on the app until I have the cable plugged in. And I wont buy a cable to see the price...

Went with a BMW ''private tuner in his garage n' laptop'' . about 275$usd.

"Plus, there is someone on this forum (sorry I forget your name!) that is getting an OTS E30 map made" That would be me There response time and customer service is second to none!

They made me an E30 map after I reached out, with in a week and half. I logged it sent it to them and they sent me a 2nd better E30 map the next day. Logged that sent it to them and had a 3rd E30 map that day.

Car is running great! I love there service and continued innovation.

In addition they now have the trans flash which at the very least does away with the torque limiters in 3rd and 6th gear. This alone would be an additional $350 from XHP.

Bringing up old thread rather than start a new one.

I just flashed MHD stage 1 and xHP stage 3 on my X3 xDrive35i. Unfortunately USA X3’s still use the PWG. I read that MHD works better with the PWG than bm3. Load based (MHD) vs boost based (bm3) tunes.

Car is smooth and running really well. MHD and xHP are a good combination. Waiting on a new ftp charge pipe, spark plugs and coils to be delivered.

if you're PWG, and have access to e85 ... consider an e30 or full e85 ethanol map.

I've ran stage 1 e85 map v1.06 since 05/17/2021 (about 3000 miles)

$2.59, beats paying $4.50 (ish) for ACN 91

For those wondering, actual e85 content is e71 for this particular location

$35.88, for 13.8 Gal. hooray!

bonus, every now and then you run into another enthusiast and usually makes for good conversation when they see a family suv pumping e85

AND, just to throw it out there ... when I reached out to MHD for support via the following channels:

-email
-fb group for "mhd enthusiasts"
-fb direct msg

I've always received help, in a timely manner.

Please note, this is not indicative of everyone's experience, as I have seen others struggle to get their mhd app work with with their device. And this is not in any way a knock at bm3, which I am most certain has equally awesome service and support. I simply flipped a coin, it landed on heads, and I chose to purchase mhd.

I’ve already had great response from contacting MHD. Fast reply to any questions.

No e85 near me yet. Stuck with crappy California fuel. Seen $5 a gallon for 91 premium at a local station.

Mid peninsula, so nothing really close. Hopefully a closer station starts selling e85 soon.

yeah even with the extra fuel needed and loss of mpg from it, it still saves you a little over 1$ per gallon which is great. just wish you were able to get the performance from it too but you really don't with that tune

for sure.. I went bm3 when I weighed the pros and cons I picked bm3 cause of the stuff mhd didn't do as well.

bm3 had better power from ots.. mhd had better custom tuning setup, bm3 had a better log viewer etc..

since them they've become nearly equal.. I like bm3 still simply cause it's one price plus the map pack if you want to change maps etc either way, you can't go wrong!
