In the US market, "Canberra Beige" is the color closest to "Tan". You're all correct that Oyster is lighter than Canberra Beige, but just very slightly. In person, it's hard to tell the difference unless you see them side by side.

The grey poplar trim goes very well with Canberra beige too. Of course, piano black goes well with just about everything so you can't go wrong with that.

Just got a carbon black last weekend. What should I be doing to it to prevent swirls and keep it looking awesome?

Nothing, don't drive it at all ... you have to just keep it in a garage

Depends how deep your pockets are. PPF (self healing) is great but not cheap. Next best ceramic coating, and wash and dry carefully (2 bucket, decent mitt, good microfibres and drying towels). Or pay an expert to maintain for you 😂

All of the above, which means NEVER taking it to a carwash where anything is going to touch your car. Even self-service coin-operated washes are not a good idea if you use their brushes (they are OK if you just use the water and soap coming out of the spray gun).

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions.
Not to throw a wrench in your build, but I highly recommend the poplar gray trim (if it's available in your market) rather than piano black. I have a Carbon Black with Oyster (very similar to a "tan") interior and the poplar gray trim, and it looks fantastic. Also, the poplar gray does not show smudge marks and finger prints at all.
Oyster isn't Tan, it's Beige!? :

Defo need a microfibre to hand with piano black, even the bits of gloss black that's there with aluminium trim drives me crazy with the dust and fingerprints!
What size of spacers would you recommend for the 21" rims to bring out both wheel axles to be flush with the exterior of the car body?

My 21”s already stick out past body (at least pretty sure at least the bottom of the arches). I will take a pic tomorrow as too dark now.

They're the same width and offset as the 20's, so 15mm all round.

So does stick out in the bottom of wheel arch, but less so the top, but to be honest, for me, it is spot on, but others will disagree.

Excuse filthy car 🤦*♂️

On a slightly different subject... I'm also on the cusp of placing an order in the UK for an X3 M40i. Has anyone found adding any of the safety features reduces insurance costs? Such as Driving Assistance / Plus?

In a word...No. All I had was a bit of confusion when I detailed the options I had as standard like the M Sport + Pack. They (initially) thought they should charge more as "modified" despite me using the words "factory fitted options"

Anyway, they came to their senses, but I very much doubt you will get a discount for having those options. Maybe with tracker or ghost

I did a quote just last night on Admiral Insurance and for 10k mileage per year, with £64.5k market value and full business use for the policy holder (including Motor legal protection and guaranteed NCD), it was £600 which is only £20 more than my current 4 year old car

That looks fine for me.

I am going to get the car with Gtechniq Crystal Cerum Black with EXO coating installed. Looking at GVE London or a place back home in Scotland near Perth.

I also saw a detailing video online that showed a dryer for cars called Master Blaster which can help essentially blow off the water droplets from your car after washing so it stops any chance of it drying on the paint work.

Do you think something like this would be a good thing perhaps?

Ouch! I have Admiral Multicar for M40i (2019) and Mini JCW (2018), and for 10k miles on BMW and 7k on Min, is £405 p/a all in.

EDIT: Just spotted you said full business use. Mine just personal and commuting :-)

I coated mine with Gyeon Q2 Pure when I got it, does help A LOT keeping clean (Car hasn't been washed in 2 weeks, and been non stop rain etc).

I would HIGHLY recommend one of these instead of a dryer:

https://www.raceglaze.co.uk/race-gla...ashing-filter/

Means you can wash car and let it air dry without spotting

Business Insurance always costs a little more, but still happy it's only a tad higher than my current insurance. Sounds like a good deal you have too!

Really happy to be joining the X3 M40i club for sure in the UK

yes, edited my post, and as you say, not much more than current, for high spec.
You won't regret it, GREAT car!!

Be careful on the comment about Live View. My understanding, confirmed with dealer, is that Live View and iDrive7 doesn't come until Sept build slots for Nov delivery. If you get an earlier slot you will likely get the current dash instead.

I've had carbon black on my 4 series for the past couple of years. 90% of the time in Scotland it looks black. Only in the nicest of days does that nice metallic blue pop out. Previous car was Estoril Blue. This year we will go Phytonic as the grey seems a bit muted on all but sunny days, have had carbon, and my wife's mini is sliver.
