Emergency Braking

Has anyone actually had the need for the car to completely stop on it’s own from speed, like in a situation where you weren’t paying attention? Obviously not something you can check or want to happen, but I haven’t even gotten the red car warning on the hud or had it slow down itself (unless ACC is engaged). I’ve tried to brake late in front of another stopped car but I still have my training wheels on (under 1200 miles) so I drive it pretty conservatively.

I haven't had it full stop at speed but earlier this week on the freeway, I75 in Central Florida, I got a chirp and a slow down. I had adaptive cruise control on. I didn't realize it until the chirp happened but the traffic in front of me had slowed down to a crawl. Of course, as soon as I saw what was about to happen I took over braking. I slowed down in plenty of time.

I'm pretty sure even without the auto breaking I would have noticed the traffic slowing down in front of me in time to not crash into the car in front of me. But once I looked in the rear view mirror I realized the car in back of me might not of. Because the auto breaking came on before I knew there was an issue the car behind me got a warning earlier than they would have from me hitting the brakes.

So now I know that auto breaking not only stops me earlier, it helps stop the car behind me earlier too. Without it, I think there was a good chance I would have been rear-ended.

This is something that even I keep wondering, and like OP said, I don't want to try this or happen. I have seen the "red car warning" icon a few times but never experienced auto braking. Neither have I ever seen the "pedestrian warning icon". I do feel comfortable knowing that the car has these safety systems.

I've had the red car warning pop up and then brake suddenly. Scared the crap out of me as there wasn't a car in front of me but I think it picked up the dip in the road for some reason.

Hoping I never have to experience it with other vehicles around as it very possibly could results in being rear ended if the following car is tailgating or not paying attention.

This actually happened to me yesterday on the way home from work. It was rush hour on the expressway & in the blink of an eye the guy in front of me slammed on his brakes.

Before I knew it the red warning went off on the hud and my ride slammed on the brakes by itself preventing a collision.

I escaped without a scratch but almost didn't. The cars behind me had locked up their brakes and were sliding toward me at speed with tires smoking. Had to step on the gas to move forward a bit & that prevented me from getting rear ended. It was a sphincter tightening moment that's for sure. .

Experiencing this first hand confirms the safety features in these vehicles work.

Wow. Sorry to hear that but happy the system worked and you were able to avoid a crash.

Good to know it should work if needed.

I don't have ACC but the pedestrian and collision warnings are standard. I have my settings down to "low" because I don't want them too sensitive. I recently realized that for my "backup collision" warning to work, the car has to be going at a certain speed. it apparently can tell the difference between a car and a person. So far pretty pleased with it.

Good to know that not only the emergency braking worked as intended, it also let you overrode it when you pressed on gas to avoid being rear ended. After getting rear ended a few times in my life, that's something I hate most.

Mine just did that today for the first time. Wow! Good brakes!! No car in front of me but I did see a squirrel? I don't think that would se it off? I am at almost 2,000 miles and drive this part of road every day. I at least now know what auto braking feels like!

I'm 4000 miles in. I've had it chirp a couple times on the freeway. Going about 80mph both times, nothing in front of me both times. Then one time going about 10mph it chirped and brought me to an immediate stop. The car in front of me was at least three car lengths ahead of me. But the car behind me almost hit me. Is there a way to turn this feature off?

Mine has popped twice before.

1. I was doing about 10-15mph and some knob just walked in front the car. For being said knob I was quite happy to teach him a jolly good lesson ;-). The car however had its own thoughts and the judder of those brakes, oh what a noise, let him free.

2. On a motorway and again some cheese decided I was not there and just plain pulled into me, quick sharp. Before I could blink it (the car) was braking for me. Not sure what would have happened if someone was up my tail pipe?

So, it works for sure. Had a few beeps only also, keeps you alert although one has to try not to be in situations that make a beep. Sometimes they come to you though :-/

The emergency braking only engages when the car in front of me suddenly barking really heavy, but my car did not fully stop, that time my foot already on the brake paddle I just feel like some one push the paddle for me.

Timely thread. out last Saturday in our 30i. wife driving....car in front of her at last minute decides to turn left. We were going 35 to 40. She hit brakes hard and "I thought no way will this car stop in time. Well it did!!! I guess the system took over and stopped car, unfortunately the car behind did not stop and hit our rear pretty hard. Car was driveable but rear end took damage.

Car that hit us was some kid in an 02 accord....which was totaled. Interestingly enough his car kind of bounced off of ours. Only issue with us was our heads kind of snapped back into headrest, but thank goodness we are ok

Anyway, she is in body shop for next few weeks for repair to the tune of $7k plus

Please could you clarify what do you mean by "car is very liable"? Like, car is responsible for that or it helped preventing bigger crash?
