No anti-dazzle on left mirror??
Having my first proper night drive since collecting my car last Saturday and I’ve noticed my left mirror (passenger -RHD) doesn’t have antidazzle glass. Is this normal on the X3? Just my 430d had it on both and I assumed it would be the same on the X3, especially as there wasn’t an option to spec it on the build.

Yep...it appears BMW has recently dropped the auto-dimming mirror on the passenger side.

First time owning a BMW and it just looks odd that the driver's side mirror has the auto-dimming function while the passenger side doesn't.

I could think of o couple of scenarios when you want your passenger side mirror not dimmed - when parked at curb side at night in city and you can monitor foot traffic on curb using the mirror while sitting at the driver side. Also, you can see the curb better when parallel park at night on a street with ambient lighting that could trigger the dimming.
But these are just excuses in a lame effort to justify cost saving, which is exactly why it was done this way. |

if you really want it you could probably source a mirror from a German or US Spec car and try to retro fit it, I would assume the wiring may already be in the loom unless of course BMW fit different looms for UK cars and other RHD cars, may be the case as the mirror tilt on reverse will be on the other side for the foreign cars
