I have an Android phone, but this might still help you. I don't interfere with the phone's BT pairing, instead I go into Com, Manage Devices, Disable this device.

I still sometimes get BimmerCode failure to connect, but I have always managed to get by that.
It might be superstition but before going into Airplane mode, I run the OBDLink app on the phone and connect. If this doesn't work, I remove the OBDLink device, then reinsert it and press the pairing button. If the OBDLink app does connect, then go into Airplane mode and diagnostic mode. Check again in Com to be sure the phone device is disabled. Then start BimmerCode. If it comes up with the cannot connect message, try it again and it usually works the second time (for me at least). (If along the way you get a pairing message, ignore it.)

I haven’t installed the OBDlink app. Is that something I should do and connect to that?

Thanks for the suggestion but where do you mean? The BimmerCode “Connect” in the app doesn’t have a + sign.

Do you mean the connect button on the dongle? The + sign printed isn’t a button is it?

Was any of this in the directions?

I mentioned the OBDLink app. That's the one with the + Connect at the bottom.
Edit. I missed the point about you not having that app installed. It might well not be necessary, but try it anyway. Works for me when the double try to connect with the BimmerCode app doesn't succeed.

Finally got the adapter and paid for the app. Followed instructions but maybe did something wrong? Please see my comments next to each step in case it's operator error...

Connecting with a Bluetooth adapter (iOS)
1. Disable CarPlay in the iOS settings if active.
-> Never used CarPlay so don't think it's active? Tried on both Iphone and Ipad

2. Disconnect the Bluetooth connection to the iDrive systen and any additional Bluetooth connections.
-> Told Iphone to forget BT of car. Ipad never hooked to car. No BT connections when tried using either device

3. Turn on the ignition in the car or start diagnostic mode in G Series cars (press the start button in the car three times in quick succession without pushing the brake or clutch pedal).
-> This step worked perfectly. Said it was in Diagnostic Mode

4. Plug in the adapter into the OBD port in the footwell on the driver side.
-> Plugged in and green power light came on, blue BT light blinking

5. Enable the Airplane mode on the iOS device.
-> Check

6. Turn on Bluetooth on the iOS device.
-> Check

7. Open the BimmerCode app and check if the correct adapter type is selected in the settings.
-> Check

8. Tap on "Connect" in the start screen.
Gives Cannot Connect error

Selected X3 G01. Any ideas? Do I have a defective adapter or did something incorrect?

Thanks for any suggestions!
Did you connect the adapter to your iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth before using the app? If so, adapter is bad, if you didn't, that's likely your issue.

I've only had my 19 M40i for 3 days now, but I coded it for Alphine Display and audio sounds for lock/unlock.

Nice work 👍 Had mine for a month 😂

All, any thoughts on whether Alpina should be reverted when car goes into BMW, as is a VERY obvious code 😬

Thanks, I'll connect to OBLink app.

To clarify, do this at step 4A or 6A? Do this after car is in Diagnostic mode (step 3). Or enter Diagnostic mode on vehicle after dongle is connected to OBD app?

Did you press the connect button on your adapter and pair it your phone? Should do this after your step 6 above. The blue led blink fast while in pairing mode then go solid once paired. I got a new iPhone recently so had to re-pair my adapter yesterday.

Ok, got it to work! Thanks all for the tips. Needed to pair a couple times and connect BimmerCode also a couple times, but success.

Changed a few items-
1- ASD off (dealer plugged unit back in after service last week. Confirmed I don’t want it on)
2- Remember last ASS setting
3- Door/Seat belt chime off
4- No volume pop up
5- Mirror dip 50% (will need to verify if that’s a good setting for me)
6- VIM, usb and codecs (removed speed lock but need to test if it works)
7- Removed camera and start up warning

Forgot to turn off animation when switching driving modes. Anyone remember with ECU that is?

Thanks again!!

Great! You got most of the popular changes. Like those, most additional coding changes are a matter of personal preference, but you might consider:

Front Module -> Start in Sport Individual mode if that sounds attractive to you. Note that you can use the individual settings to select only those systems that you want to change.

Power Tailgate button -> Various changes to effect of key fob buttons and driver door buttons, especially if you haven't had a dealer code it for no hatch opening when the car is locked.

I also changed the start up animation, A/C on in Auto mode -> OFF, and a few others.

The switch for animation when changing driving modes might be in iDrive.

You can do that from the iDrive menu, no need to code.

Actually I still have the chime so it must have been the seat belt reminder that I turned off.

Indeed - what is that? - just another example of us not getting all the bells and whistles that they get in the US of A. ( Well, bells anyway )

I think that's the seat belt warning when you start the car, if I'm not mistaken.

On this thread, there were questions about enabling "Comfort Access" - So seat moving back when the driver's door is opened, and then back into place when door is closed.

I found the below on a thread on F30 BimmerPost:

"Wow , bimmercode has endless coding options in Expert Mode. I just coded my seat to move back when i open my door, and the roll front again when i start the car. Didn't even know i had this option.

3000 SM Global > Einausstuegshilfe. Once here just change from nicht aktiv to Modus_FA_SLV.

I am VERY new to BimmerCode, so nervous to go anywhere near Expert mode, but if someone who is confident wants to give this a go.....

If any of you want to revert your Theme (for visit to dealer) from Alpina to Standard, and have lost M40i logo, use expert mode and check the values for LOGO_SCHRIFTZUG. There should be an "m40i" selection.

Easy :-)
