I did personally have the pedalbox with my last car (Q5), but had the Tuning box and TCR+ (gearbox) flash/tune...highly rated, but apparently the pedalbox really helps with accelerator lag. Coming from 2.0 Q5, M40i feels fine to me :-)

I'm closing in on 5 months of ownership and just over 5,300 miles. Absolutely love my M40i so far and honestly have no real complaints other than a few software quirks here and there. For me it seems like the best compromise between sport, luxury, and utility on the market right now.

I agree about the throttle response. I've had this with previous BMW's as well. What helps a lot is either shifting manually or having the shifter in sport mode. It's not about the gearbox being slow it's more the car is programmed at too low rpm's to lower gas consumption imo and because of that it chooses too high gears

Talking about ownership happiness, getting a really odd "chirping/squeak" from the outside, and sounds to be coming from driver's side.

I searched the forum and the nearest I could find was this:

https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showt...php?p=24272970

Car now booked in for 22nd July for a week, there are a few other minor things, such as sunroof rattle and boot roof rubber trim to look at.

I will try and get my own video and post here.

Car is only 450 miles (UK) old

That doesn't sound right. My town is junction and roundabout central, and has alot of elevation change.

When I whack the gearbox of my F25 20d into sport, I have zero anxiety when pulling out. It just leaps on throttle application with no delay or hesitation. Have you tried another M40i?

Like the comfort, space, ride, toys and looks. Speed is reasonably good, cornering OK for an SUV... but you don't buy and SUV for cornering ability so perhaps I should say good.

In the US, particularly west coast where you have lots of traffic lights and less "European" style roads that I drive on around Boston, it probably wouldn't bother me very much.

Reliability has been good, other than tyre pressure sensors failing within 20-miles of picking it up - all fixed quickly.

A few rattles in the interior sometimes, but nothing majorly irritating.

As far as the throttle delay, are you using the auto start/stop? That’s the only time I notice a delay in throttle response.

Sport mode switches off stop/start.

Arcanum-UK You may benefit from looking at a DTUK PedalBox[/QUOTE]

This has my interest piqued...how difficult is it to install? Any guides? Does insurance up charge you for the modification?

I think sports mode will sort the 'hesitation' as it is just programmed in with comfort - I had it on my M240i ... if I came up to a roundabout and wanted a swift getaway then I just popped it into Sport then back out again when away from the hazard.

Pretty easy to install I understand but speak to the guys at DTUK, really helpful. I am sure they could send you a guide.

If I had to do it again I would've went SQ5...purely because of the awful M40i wind noise, horrid steering wheel, and soft tip-in. I am on a tune and it's much better but knowing I have to take a long trip with the wind noise & archaic suspension setup irks me quite a bit. Of course this is IMHO.

Do you have Acoustic Glass and adaptive suspension?

Really? I thought the SQ5 was just ok. Not near enough power and the BMW handling felt far superior to me. The quietest car I drove was the Lexus RX350 but I could not live with the big ugly grill. I was between the Acura RDX and BMW and am quite happy with the X3. I ordered acoustic glass but not really sure if it is a big difference or not?

I liked the RDX as well. I almost went that route but there were a few things I didn't love in the RDX and the m40i made me smile more.

Agreed. M40i was way more fun than the SQ5.

WAY WAY more fun and involving than SQ5. I have just come from 2018 Q5, but tested and driven many SQ5’s...no thanks

The M40i is such a good car, especially for the money. Very versatile between EcoPlus and Sport Plus, fast as heck, flawless reliability for me, good use of its footprint in terms of interior and cargo space. I'm leasing but would actually consider buying one next go round which is rare for me to say or want, I just can't find any other vehicle that checks so many boxes at a reasonable price point.

I'm glad to hear this as I ended up buying one instead of leasing. I was a little concerned about this decision after reading through this forum as many say BMW's are lease only cars and that you should drop them when the warranty is up.
I tend to keep my cars for 7+ years so wasn't planning on dropping it after 4.
