MHD tune M40i
Thought I'd start a thread specifically for the MHD tune, since there isn't one already out there...
I haven't flashed this yet (waiting for DP install before I do), but have done so on the N54 platform with great results, flexibility, and the ability to customise things like exhaust burble, intercooler settings, cold start, O2 sensors and more recently particle filter settings all by yourself, easily. The most recent update is xHP's transmission flashing support!!! This is asking for all of us!! Can't wait to flash this bad boy!!! Last edited by _ink; 06-25-2019 at 05:59 PM.. |

_ink did you pull the trigger? I'm not going to do DP's but very interested in the Stage1 map.
Loved MHD on my N54. I'm curious - since I already paid for that flasher module on the N54 app do we have to pay again on the new F+G flasher module, or just buy the new B58 maps? |

Flash failed / failed to authenticate
Well crap. Bought the licenses, hooked up the charger, airplane mode on, and was all prepared to flash. The OBD cable I'm using, I am 99% certain is good. I can read DME codes using MHD with it and this is the same cable I used on my old N54. It does "Connect" to the DME on the B58.
On the "B58 Maps" screen, it shows "Connected" and properly displays my VIN. I choose the map, and it moves to the "Flash" screen, it shows "Preparing the Map File" and "Connected". Then after about 10-20 seconds says Failed to authenticate" "Connected". It's tricky to know whether the engine stays on with a B58 x3. There is no key slot to plug your key into, no CEL on while the ignition is "on" with engine off. Hey Momir MHD Tuning Momir@MHD do you have any advice? I followed the user manual but am stuck. Are you putting the X3 into diagnostic mode when trying to flash? I'm not sure if it needs to be in the mode for the tune but I know it does in order to use BimmerCode.

Making sure I understand... press the engine start button 3 times quickly? I've done something similar to my Android phone pushing the Android OS version 7 times quickly. Had no idea that exists on BMW.

Seems like this step would be a major improvement to add to the user guide for the MHD app. |

Have only gotten to drive around the neighborhood so far. Love the extra burble and noticeable increase in torque. I'll update further when I can get it out to the 85mph tollway... |

So far so good on the tune. Only problem is the oil change interval seems to have gotten erased during the flash. Anyone know how to make this go away and/or reset the service interval?

Exact same thing happened when I flashed BM3 for the first time. Only way to solve was to have their support person remote in to the car and perform the fix.
Problem was gone after that and my oil change interval was reset back to where it was originally. |

I haven't heard or seen anything about losing the oil intervals, have you tried going into Diag mode, then pressing down on the button on the bottom left of the dash?
If there's no luck there, post on the MHD tuning enthusiasts Facebook page, or email directly. Keen to see what comes of this. |

Had a bit more time to try out the St1 tune on the tollways with light traffic so I could really open it up. Really noticed a more lively behavior both in Comfort and Sport modes. I'm sure the iDrive power and torque gauges are only directionally correct, but I liked the numbers! It showed roughly 400hp and 380lb-ft! BMW advertised specs are 355hp and 365lb-ft. MHD advertises 420hp and 428lb-ft for their St1 tune.
I don't really feel I'm getting the torque gains advertised. One interesting note is the numbers seemed better in Comfort Mode vs. Sport. I suspect that might have something to do with the AT shift mode. Going to play with that on Sport Individual and try manual paddle shifts. Maybe this is why the xHP trans tunes are also popular I'm curios what the boost psi is compared to stock. Will try running some of the monitoring modes both on Map1 and back on stock Map0 to compare over the next couple days. |

Found these instructions for resetting oil interval elsewhere on x3 forum. The steps went as advertised, but it failed to reset at the end:
Engine off. Press the start button 3 times very fast (no brakes). Wait 10 seconds. Press the trip reset button and hold (bottom left of instrument cluster) until oil interval menu pops up. Press trip reset and hold for 2 seconds. Confirm by pressing trip reset and holding for 2 seconds. |

that's slightly annoying, however, I oil change every 5000kms, so not such a big deal for me.

The OCD is real with me. This is going to be a problem, and I'm about to go on a 2 week roadtrip. Luckily I'm tight with a tech at the dealership. Will see if he can reset. If not, oil will be due by the time my trip is over.
