Bmw will have access to all of your service calls-if it has been noticed then or at the last fix stop-it will be noted in your files-I would expect BMW to use any excuse they can not to refund or replace that they can-it will be your task if it is brought up, to show that the add on has nothing to do with the non-conformity. from what I have seen they pull out all the stops and it is their past M.O.

vibrations
Thanks! to bad I cant get passed service, foreman states there are no vibrations present to his knowledge. I get to work after an hour drive with tingly / numb feet due to the vibrations. The mini cooper they gave me as a loaner drives better for God sake. I schedule an appt to drive with him. All other issues I have videos for (whining noise from engine bay)and they state they cant duplicate so they cant troubleshoot. so annoying, I've almost had it with them!

have you tried taking it to a different dealer-and also make sure you don't lose the paper work from your visits-even if they tell you they cannot duplicate-you can still go after them-what I have seen is BMW has closed ranks and now is telling their dealers not to acknowledge the issue-all the people who had the problem have all fell by the roadside-gone away-no longer looking for the answer-seems strange to me-just don't give up

Look for the thread where I posted a spreadsheet, go through the data in it to find others within Florida who may have found greater success with dealers who were more interested in a solution, seems I remember one in the Jacksonville area but I could be wrong. I knows its at the other end of the state from you :-(

I feel and also hear a very noticeable vibration in my wife's M40i, it occurs when my foot is on the gas and the rpm about 2100 RPM, torque around 180 when traveling at about 90 MPH.
At slower speeds I only notice a slight vibration, when cruising around 60 MPH at 1400 RPM, which is harder to discern. Did anyone notice a vibration more at higher speeds? -Supe edit: build date April 2018 with 19" wheels, 12k Miles |

Once we did that, they felt the vibration and took the car in to see what was causing it. It took them a few tries and each subsequent road test they did by themselves and documented it on their repair invoice. Upon reading the invoice, it said they could in fact reproduce the 70 mph vibration. Ha, they surely did drive it beyond the speed limit. Don't take that crap from them. The car is sold to you with a speedo that goes well beyond 100, they have to find a way to bring the car to spec. For my issue, it was tires and a bad rear wheel, I do not believe from what I have read that the X3 M40i issues has the same root cause, so keep pressing on. |

Of the 31, 25 were M40i, 5 were 30i and 1 was not listed. The ave mileage of cars reporting the issue was 5,835 with a range of 2,500 - 16,800. Look for the spreadsheet I uploaded earlier and you can see all the data along with what each owner had done to their cars in an attempt to resolve. Owners reporting the issue were from the US, Canada, UK, GA. Owners who reported they were not seeing the issue were from the US, Canada Switzerland. |

I notice that even the engine idle at standstill has more vibration than when she first got the car, but who knows if that is related. But I wonder if its something farther up the drive train that's the source, maybe the flywheel?
I should note that at least in my case, since i'm not the primary driver, its been 6 or 7 months since i last drove it, so I notice changes more than say my wife who drives it daily. |

End up having to do a ride along with tech to show him how to reproduce the issue.
They believe its the rear axle, so they put in an order. I drove another M40 and it sure doesn't have this vibration issue, so i really hope whatever they come up with fixes it. |

If you look at the numbers, they don't start vibrating till around the 3K mile mark if I remember correctly. So, the other one you drove, what was the mileage?

Is there an update to the axles?, it makes me wonder if this develops over time, does that mean we'll possibly see it again. Last edited by supe; 07-16-2019 at 09:50 PM.. |

Bottom line at this point is there is no clear remedy that worked for owners. Driveshafts and axels were replaced and the vibration either didn't change or it came back. Some owners said their cars did not have the issue at all. Roll the dice, how lucky do you feel? |

My new rear axles helped the issue for a period of time-by the time I got 3500 miles on the new axles the vibrations had come back-my car was built in Jan. of 2018-my car got to around 400 miles and it started to run rough-it got worse as the mileage increased-believe me I'm glad I got rid of it because it is a terrible feeling to own a car that is a lemon right out of the factory that you have paid top dollar for-not owning that car really has improved my daily life-

I gave up trying to fix it, dealer ignores its an issue, they say they cant diagnose so ive taken to upper management and waiting on a deal to trade it in.
