Security / Alarms / Immobilisers

What do people in the UK have ?

I've just sold an M240i Convertible with a Cat 5 Tracker and a Pandora Mini BT alarm/immobiliser.

I like the idea of an ADR card based alarm/immobiliser but there don't seem many out there.

May look to Pandora again as their stuff was awesome on the M240i but the BMW alarm and locking system sometimes reacted to the Pandora by not engaging itself unless you waited maybe 5-10 seconds to lock the car.

The car always locked but with only the Pandora system protecting it as opposed to both the BMW Cat 1 and Pandora. The Pandora ADR tag is tiny too ...

I can see Meta do a Tracker with an immobiliser and ADR tags but never had a Meta.

The only other option is an Autowatch Ghost 2 I think ..?

I also use a Stoplock Pro ... not that I am paranoid ! I don't even live in Birmingham lol

Any suggestions ?

Just had Ghost installed, very impressed and added that extra layer of security, also park it with a Disklok as a visual deterrent.

I wonder what's wrong with Birmingham? I live in Toronto but visit Birmingham maybe 4-5 times a year for business. Walk around city center and took trains at Grand Central many times. Never un-safe.

Anyone else with immobilisers ?

Now looking Pandora Light Pro ... as I just fancy another ADR tag immobiliser with a tag that is tiny.

I was going to go for this but decided against it. Heard about lots of issues as well as dealer mentioned that it could invalidate the warranty (a standard line I appreciate) but nonetheless did not want the additional hassle. Got GAP insurance and the Stoplock Pro Elite from Amazon (https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/access...ng-wheel-locks), which I have been led to believe fits M-steering wheels, plus a couple of Disklabs Key Shield Faraday pouches (https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/access...-blockers-2018). Was going to get the Disklok but felt the Stoplok would be easier. Either way, both are very good.

Initially used a Disklok but found poorly finished surfaces inside where the unit is hinged and so were scuffing the steering wheel leather - not permanent damage, but not what you'd expect. The unit was also causing dents in the thick steering wheel which lifted after removal and normal use.

Tried a Disklok steering wheel cover, but this was shredded with holes in a week. I also find the key entry and turning a bit rough and difficult, While I like the device, I am still debating whether to return to supplier (or even complain to Disklok because of the poor finishing and lack of quality control) but in the interim have stuck a series of furniture sticky pads from Wilko over the offending rough spots. May still return it.

Also have GAP cover, but have used Faraday pouches when I had bought the car. Then earlier this year, I had the key fobs replaced by BMW with the post-March 2018 versions which stop emitting a signal after 2 mins of inactivity. Cost was under £200 so good VFM, IMO as BMW pay 70% of the cost of the new fobs.

Also considering a Spy Track https://www.rewiresecurity.co.uk/buy-spytrack as the overall cost is far cheaper than propriety brands of tracker but seems to do much the same.

That's what BMW said to me as well, but I still wanted additional protection so got and use the Faraday pouches. Too many car thefts in my area of late.

I started using a Stoplock Pro Elite which is great size wise but kept knocking the indicators on .... so reverted to my old Disklok.

As the X3 has so much space in the cabin I find putting the disklok on ok but still prefer the Stoplock tbh ... but won't use it on the X3 due to the indicator issue - anyone else have this with the stoplock ?

Also still struggling with idea in my head of an alarm/immobiliser (Pandora - non insurance recognised) or just a tracker with an immobiliser (Meta Deadlock - Insurance recognised)

Alternative to this is a remap by DMS to 410bhp !

Had the same issue with the Stoplock but managed to avoid knocking the indicators by turning the steering wheel by 10 degrees and the placing the lock.

I've just had Global Smart Track Pro which is a Cat 6 Tracker, however Mark Ingham from in Leeds also adds a Tag (DRST) which needs to be kept with you when driving. If you do not carry the Tag (separately from your keys, for obvious reasons) then 24/7 monitoring via control room will contact you to determine the status of your car. Also a free App for your phone so you can see the location of your car.

Mine was £389.00 fitted plus £12.49 per month subscription.

https://www.sasmobile.co.uk/view-pro...Global-Tracker

Can't recommend Mark enough from Safe and Sound Mobile, very helpful and very knowledgable. Did a great, neat job and would definitely use him again.

OK, will try that as the Stoplock is far easier to use ! It also shows out more and is well solid (well, Autoexpress rated it as 5 mins plus to cut through !)

I nearly went for the Disklok but opted for Stoplok because of the rating by Autoexpress and like you found it was easier to use and lighter but also not likely to damage the steering wheel.

Stoplock Pro now back on car after steering turned slightly ... looks so much neater

Leaning towards a DMS remap as opposed to Pandora now
