X3 time zone changes
Folks - My 2019 X3 doesn't automatically update the clock when I cross a timezone. I have to uncheck and then re-check the automatic time update box. My dealer claims that it isn't supposed to work as I'd expect (i.e., that the vehicle automatically changes the clock when I cross the time zone). I directed him to a thread on this forum where folks were discussing some code that needed to be changed and he claimed that didn't apply to me because I had a different "head." Can it really be true that my 2019 X3 isn't smart enough to do this? My 2015 Ford Escape did this! Looking for truth...

Same in my 2018. Called BMW and they confirmed it doesn't change time zones in real time.
I was told it could take a couple days to update. I've left it for a week and it never switched over to the correct time. I've always switched manually since then. My last car (Acura RDX) switched time zones pretty much identically to when my cellphone updated. Maybe this function is from the XM radio signal? For some reason BMW is not using the car's connectivity for the clock. |

When I bought my 2018 I was told you had to check and uncheck it, that is how it functions. I don't cross timezones much so its not much of a point of contention for me.

Our 750 didn't do it either and BMW confirmed it doesn't automatically change. One of the mysteries of BMW to me, like ventilated, but not cooling seats.

SIGH...
Thanks for the replies that indicate my dealer was telling the truth. I really don't understand why BMW would not implement functionality that it is clearly instrumented for... I go through time zones ALL THE TIME and it never occurred to me that a 2019 BMW wouldn't deal with this as gracefully as a 2015 Ford Escape. Crazy...

On a recent trip going East my '19 X4 didn't change automatically in real time as I crossed into the Central time zone. So an hour or so well into the new time zone, I changed it manually and checked the box again. However, driving West a few days later it changed within minutes of crossing back into the Mountain zone. Wondering if maybe it checks time zones periodically, but not very frequently.

Time updates rely on the car pinging ConnectedDrive's servers when the "auto update time" option is enabled. I believe that's why time-zone updates can seem sporadic; it's subject to the whims of whatever code is running in the background unless you're specifically requesting News or Weather or whatever.
At least, this has been my experience with my previous F25 '16 X3 and current G01 '18 X3. This weekend I traveled from Central time to Eastern. A few miles beyond the boundary I noticed my phone had updated, but the X3's clock had not. I just tapped the ConnectedDrive shortcut button, and as it was loading the landing page the X3 time (and route guidance ETA) adjusted automatically. |
