Headliner not attached to windshield

I was installing a new dash cam the other day and noticed that the headliner is not actually not fully attached to the windshield, I could easily pry it open and put my finger through it. It seems it is only fastened at the corner where it attaches to the a pillars and the center rear view mirror assembly. Can anyone confirm that this is normal?

Same on my G01 Msport and the wifes' F55 MINI Cooper. Think it's probably to allow for easier removal and refitting of new windscreens. Just as well, I had 3 new windscreens on my previous F25 and 2 on the MINI in last 3 years. BMW screens seem to crack very easily!

Same with mine.

Made it very easy to stuff the radar detector wire in there while routing from rear view mirror to fuse box.

Made me very happy!

Exactly. It’s a feature, not a flaw!

Headliners are never attached to the windshield.
