Rough Shifting

I noticed today that the shifting is much rougher (perhaps more dynamic) during hard acceleration when the shifter is moved to the left (but still in auto mode) than in the sport mode via the rocker buttons. Anyone else see this?

Thanks. Duke

-I've not experienced this. I'm a bit confused. The shifter in the left most position should put the transmission in manual(paddle or console shift mode.) You'd have to use the paddles to advance or lower the transmission gear ratio.
- With the shifter in the normal center position, and sports mode or any mode for that matter, and using the paddles to shift; simply gives you the option to change the transmission gear, yet it will automatically switch gears if you do not.
- Again, having the shifter fully left is more manual. I can guess you've put it fully left, and are not using the paddles to shift and the system maybe shifting for you?
- Or you've placed the system in launch mode which would account for a more solid shifting.
Personally, I'm too scared to put her in launch mode, i don't want to leave the planet.

Moving the shifter to the left position puts the transmission and acceleration mapping into some form of sports mode. In this position, the transmission does not go into manual mode until you flick the paddles or shifter.

This is true, and Shifter to the left is going to give more aggressive shifting but I wouldn't say rough.

True. And much to my surprise I just learned (9,000 ticks and 8 mos ) that with the shifter hard left, the transmission will stay in manual forever once you have either used the paddles or shifted up/down with the shifter.

Feeling better about my poor rating I gave the BMW "Genius" who explained the car after 7 - 10 days of ownership.

I'm gonna figure out just how many options we have with respect to chassis, transmission and fuel mapping on these cars. It will be in the 3-digit range. Discuss.

FS, do this experiment: toggle sport mode with the rocker switch and perform a hard acceleration; the toggle back to comfort, move shifter to left without flicking either a paddle or shifter to prevent transmission going into full manual mode, then a hard acceleration again. Compare shifting dynamics. In my case, the shift in the latter mode is rougher/severe/more dynamic. See what you think.

Exactly what I am experiencing. However, not sure I would use the phrase "more dynamic" - but certainly "rougher/severe" sounds about right. To me it just feels like you may be straining the tranny. And for now reason/performance gain.
