New shocks/springs recommendation with EDC

Does anyone have a recommendation of what to replace the stock springs/shocks/struts with? For those who have already done this, who did it themself?

Sorry guys, I should have said I have EDC (Electronic Damping Control) Sport and Sport + adaptive settings which need the shocks with the appropriate fluid and electronic connector.

To my knowledge, there is no kit for X3 that will keep EDC. I ditched my EDC when I went to coil overs and I don't miss it.

What's wrong with you stock EDC set?
AFAIK, there aren't any aftermarket EDC struts/shocks for the F25.
The stock replacement struts/shocks are $$$

One of the springs broke and its just as much work replacing the spring as it is the strut and the car has 80K on it. No shocks are leaking and seem to work well, I was just wondering what others had replaced theirs with in case I decided to do it.

Either OEM or the KW DDC Plug & Play kit, which keeps EDC functional on their coilovers.

Good to know there are other options besides stock replacements.

Well, there is the KW DDC Plug & Play kit, which does keep OEM EDC function and uses the OEM switch on your center console but it comes in at a price of $3,139.99. This is more expensive than just replacing with the OEM parts. The KW parts look a lot nicer though.

Right, that's what hardparker posted.
Not sure where you'd find EDC OEM springs, struts, shocks and bump stops for less than the KW kit?
Plus, the KW kit should be a performance upgrade over OEM parts. If that cost too much for you, do a EDC delete and go with normal stuts/shocks for much less.

What was useless about your EDC?

You can either code it out or buy cancelers to plug in where the shock was connected.

There is no noticeable difference when I choose sport mode. car doesn't corner well and pogo-y on high-speed bumps.

Do you know where I can get a canceler? assuming it's some kind of resistor.

I'm not familiar with coding except Carly, which doesn't have that option. Is there another app?
thanks

Something is wrong with your DHP system. You should feel a difference, though not night and day. You're not going to get sport car handling since the spring rates are soft for a more comfortable ride, plus the X3 is a taller heavy vehicle, with longer suspension travel. It does handle very well for what it is. You can definitely improve handling with lower firmer springs and struts.

I doubt the cancelers are just a resistor since they cost $340. KW makes them.

To code them out, use e-sys on a laptop and a $15 cable. coding software and instructions

Brilliant! thanks.
So, buy the kit or a windows laptop and follow all the steps (mac person). Sounds like the kit will be easier/faster 4me.

The dhp is probably not working right. or I'm a non-subtle driver. My e83 MSport was so much better suspension-wise, I just want to get close to that.
And yea, I've heard that model was "too stiff", so I know that what I have now is much more soccer-mom oriented, the target customer.
Lowering is not an option, I live in CO and actually drive off road.
I'll take my chances with the Konis and see.

Do you have the standard suspension or sport suspension?
  • 225 Standard suspension (also "Sport Suspension Delete on M-sport)
  • 226 Sport suspension
If you don't have 226, that's what you really want since it has firmer springs/struts. You already have larger F&R anti swaybars with DHP which reduces body roll compared to the standard bars.

BTW, You can install e-sys on a mac in a VM, but, you're right, the cancelers are the simpler, yet more expensive way out.

I started to read up on how to code, and it seems intimidating:

Bilstein B12 is my choice when the time comes. I have their B12pro on my M3 and it is amazing. B16 is supposedly PnP for our X3s and fairly close to OE

Update: got the Koni reds installed plus the cancellers. Ride is a lot better than any previous "sport" mode from my stock dampers. Corners a lot better and doesn't do the wave at higher speeds hitting bumps like it did.

Definitely notice smaller bumps more but I got used to it. Larger bumps are the same.

Was it worth it? Well, now that I am a month or so away from all the cursing during install and credit card shock, I would say yes.

Do you have the KW plug and play? Considering that for my X4, and just curious about the ride quality, esp in comfort mode!
