NEW RELEASE: DINANTRONICS X for the S58 Engine
Part Number(s): D440-0155, D440-0156, D440-0164 & D440-0165 Applications:
Release Date: Available Now! Description: The DINANTRONICS X is the newest installment of Dinan's foray into inline tuning modules. Like its predecessors it is a highly engineered mix of computer hardware and software that enhances engine performance to levels the stock programming is not allowed to venture. It does this without affecting long term reliability or the functionality of on-board diagnostic systems when run under recommended operating variables. Unlike its predecessor however, the DINANTRONICS X is Bluetooth smart and offers convenient access to the adjustment of power levels directly from the palm of your hand. For those that do not wish to (or can't) alter their stock ECU with a more robust engine flash the DINANTRONICS X is a perfect alternative to satiate the craving for "more". Whichever level of engine tuning is ultimately chosen you can be sure to be pleased by the result. NOTE(S): Please refer to the recommended mapping notice on the bottom of the product page for important operating information. Features/Benefits:

I imagine those with locked DME's will be happy to see this.

Does this plug into OBDII plug? Might be interested in this after the 1st service. Does it improve (or lower) mpg as well like some tuning I've seen, obviously driving like grandma on long distance highway trips? I was able to get up to 5 more HWY mpg with APR stg1 tune on B8.5 S4.
Thinking of self-installing a V1G2 detector with Savvy option for concealed display unit that uses OBDII and need that port free.

Don't think we make any great effort to hide where the physical hardware itself comes from. From a cost perspective it simply makes more sense then continuing to go down the path of our own internally developed version of hardware (DINANTRONICS Elite). Lots of great things they were capable of but frankly they were just incredibly expensive to produce which hampered them.
As far as X goes though -- the hardware may be the same/similar to other entities but the software/calibration/tune is unique to Dinan. Ultimately its another option in the marketplace at a price point we think makes it a valid option for consideration. |

1) Does this NOT affect BMW warranty like Dinan products in the past? 2) Is there a map for E30 for those in California stuck on 91? 3) Does this unit correct the early throttle closures when in Sport+ that were seen with RaceChip and JB4 on the G8X platform? |

2. There has been no testing done specifically for blends like E30 and as such no maps specifically to use for that scenario. For emissions reasons (and universality) we stick to testing what can be acquired stright from the pump. That said there are 7 levels of power so you can start at a lower rating (say map 4-5 which is meant for lesser quality 93) and work your way up to ensure the vehicle runs properly before really pushing it up to map 7. 3. Have not experienced any throttle closure issues in either of our test cars (with limited bolt ons or completely stock). That said, any throttle closures that could occur would likely be due to hitting a factory torque limit which an inline tuner would not be able to correct for. Would require a direct change to a table via a flash tune to do that. |

Given enough digging there will always be traces when dealing with an inline tuner (piggyback). That said, the depths needed to go that far will rarely ever be employed and are typically reserved only for investigation on large warranty claims (blown engine, failed transmissions, etc). At the dealership level and just going in for maintenance with basic dealer tools there would be no indication of anything unless physically something was still present in the engine bay.

Yup, I believe the way it works is that they can check to se if your boost levels are above the stock thresholds. There are other ways to check as well. I used to take my M550 which had a dinan tuner on it in for warranty work and they never said a word but YMMV based on your dealer's tolerance for stuff like this.

Pretty sure that BMW can and will discover it, IF they really want. And this is the case if you blow your engine or transmission. For other minor repair I do not think that anybody will care.

There are many who say a piggyback tune is undetectable. My son is a BMW Tech and he told me that was not the case. Typically if BMW does not ask for the DME data no one will know. If you blow an engine/trans because you were running the highest map on 87 octane BMW will require the DME data and will find that there was a piggyback they’ll put a warranty block on the power train and won’t fix it. Many dealers don’t really care if your car is modified. They get paid by BMW for warranty service and most dealers want your continued business so they either don’t look or don’t care. |
