Tire size question.

Just picked up a 2012 35i m-sport.
the car comes with 245/45/19.
I searched from tire rack, it shows i should have 245/45/19 in the front and 275/40/19.

Why is that? I also own a 2006 325xi. From what I learned from the e90 forum, we can't have it staggered and it will destroy the transfer case.

europe X3 got wider rear tires. North america got a squared setup. (doubt tirerack said 17'' in rear)

And why a staggered setup should destroy the transfer case? Makes no sense if you have the exact same outside diameter.

Imagine in the winter time, no wheels getting the same grip almost all the time in the city, and the transfer case is alright.

On the highway, all wheels must have the same rotation speed (+/- X%).

I cant tell what is the % difference on x-drive, but on quattro the max overall diameter difference should not get over 3%.

They've relaxed the language surrounding xdrive tire sizing over the years.

If it matters, maybe the Euro-Only thing was true for 2012, but I know that my 2015 X3 35i M-Sport purchased in the USA came with the staggered setup - 245/45/19 front & 275/40/19 rear.

My 2016 US spec is also staggered which is part of its option...I'm not sure when the staggered became an option for US spec X3's.
