I 2nd the Weathertech cupfone (Must get the silicone strap for it too). It sits nice and snug and I rarely have a need for two drink holders. The doors have spots for water bottles.

took off the back and used gorilla tape to glue it to the centre of console. See pics. Works brilliant and looks like part of the car.

the gorilla tape does not damage the surface and can be removed later.

maybe this is of interest for some of you. I was looking for a smartphone mount for my X3 G01 but didn't find what I was searching for. So I decided to construct a mount out of a 3d-printer, which is clicked to the dashboard under the air outlets but doesn't block them. The shortcut-keys are still reachable, the CD-slot is blocked which is not really an issue (not needed) . For connecting the phone I use a Xvida magnetic inductive charging pad which is screwed to the 3D-printing piece. Keeping my Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ where it should be is absolutely no problem. Installing the phone on the mount is done within a second with its magnetic case. Here are some pics:

I have found that these kind of phone holders are the most stable, unobtrusive and in the right place for me. You do lose one cup holder.

Picked these up and mounted one below the AC controls. It covers the fan control, but one I set the SC I never need access to it so this works perfectly.

I might be missing something here but why do you need to mount the phone like that? What are you doing on the phone that can't wait until you're done driving. Mine sits either in my pocket or on the wireless charger out of sight.

yep, that's the wireless charging cradle.. the custom plastic mount needs to be purchased separately, like this one, and just transfer the mounting parts:

I've used ProClip mounts in my last 5 cars. I advise getting a universal phone holder so if you change phones you won't need a new phone holder. Below is a picture of the mounting position in the X3 on the right.

Using a ProClip as a base, I modified and simplified an adhesive backed ball joint magnetic phone holder. Result was a nice lower profile solution. Was about a 2 beer job.

I went for exactly the same setup!
I bought it on aliexpress for something like 15 USD. I bought it with phone holder, but it's crap. Anyway I wanted something with induction so I went for xiaomi charger and it's perfect.

I am surprised this thing still can be bought only on aliexpress

This magsafe mount works great if you have an iPhone 12. Makes it easy to pop the phone on and off without having to fiddle with anything. I do wish it had integrated charging, but it looks cleaner without it, and you can always plug the phone in anyway.

I use Google Maps on mine with voice through Bluetooth.
