You want connection to use roof antenna for better reception, but ID5/ID6 can make wireless connection for apps.

I use usb for flash and external hard drives to load with flac audio and movies.

We did pick up a space gray/black faced 128gb iPod Touch for music that will live inside the shallow front console compartment. It is so small and thin I needed only to find a 12” right angled USB-A to lighting cable to keep it plugged in and neatly hidden under the slider/cover.

I wonder if the port for that 2nd cable to the armrest console is live but for the simple hardwire connection to it.
I believe it would have to also be coded so that it would actually show up in iDrive. Not totally related, but when I had Enhanced BT coded in my car it also now gave me a media connection called "Snap-In Adapter" which is what I had in my old X3 that had a snap-in adapter for an iPhone. I don't have that now, but it's funny that it appears and it does nothing. I think the second USB would show up as USB2 or something.

I just got a compact 128GB USB drive and leave it plugged in to the USB port in the front console and have music and videos in it. For charging when needed, I use a fast charge adapter for the lighter outlet.

If I had the second USB port, I would probably plug the USB drive in the center armrest, but I'm not actually sure what I would use the front USB port for since it's charging from that is a bit slow.

I personally don't think it's worth the $500. For me, I don't spend enough time in the car during drives for a slow charge to add any value.

Is the slow charge enough when using Spotify and Waze at the same time?

My wife's '17 Mazda front charge ports are useless for charging when doing so on road trips.

The front charge port works fine for keeping the phone charged using Apple Music streaming. I also had the phone's wifi hotspot enabled so my daughter could watch youtube, but the phone didn't have the screen on the entire time like it would with Waze.

We used the port inside the armrest for the usb drive with the euro maps on them. They also gave us the BMW dual usb charger which appears to be 2.1 amp.

Invoice on the wireless charging is $460. Not the $500.

I only bring this up because you posted you scored , "18% off ... thousands under invoice before incentives and 0% financing" or something similar in the other thread.

Not bashing your deal. It's a lot better than mine.

I just don't understand. If you were already saving so much money of MSRP and had a remote interest in wireless charging why did you not check the box when your ordered?

**Disclaimer. I don't know if you purchased off the lot. If so, you found the perfect solution.***

Same problem with the ports on my son's 2018 Tacoma. Never had an issue with the ports in a E9x or F3x BMW. The E85 is good too. I think that this is one thing that BMW has done well.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta was terrible.

Because I didn’t want to pay $500 for something I could pay $16 for. There is a USB port right there and it works fine ... if you need wireless charging. I had a custom built model, and yes that was my deal.

USB is usually used for music.

Without wireless charging (or enhanced telephony) you don't have second USB in armrest.

The music can be played over bluetooth standard. USB is better for fast charging. I use spotify, I dont use itunes.

I would recomend ordering a shorter usb/micro cable for it. Also be aware that even if you order the built in charging pad, they charge much much slower than a USB port.

That’s a good solution.

I’ve had the chance to use the wireless charging quite a bit over the holiday. I don’t think it’s much slower than wired, seems to be able to do the standard 7.5W which isn’t far from normal iPhone charging. It could be much slower if your wired charge is a QuickCharge or equivalent Android phone, but iPhones have much smaller batteries and haven’t really needed quick charge yet, even wired they don’t do high-watt charging.

I find it really handy to have the wireless charging, though as pointed out you don’t need to pay for the integrated one. I went ahead and got it because:

1) There’s something to be said for having a nice integrated charger as stock, it looks nice and the car knows the phone is there and will remind you.

2) it’s more than just the charging, you get enhanced Bluetooth and an extra USB port.

3) As with everything else on the car, the cost isn’t $500. If you’re leasing the cost is 30 something percent of that or whatever your residual dictates, if you’re purchasing then there may be some value to the BT and charging for the next owner. Unless you buy a car and keep it to its grave you’re always only paying a portion of the cost.

Enhanced Bluetooth is standard for streaming audio, the extras from wireless are , extra usb in center console, connecting two phones at once and a second microphone. I’ve used them for a week now and don’t need those things. I didn’t spend an extra $500. I bought my car - don’t regret skipping it. Thread asked if it was an important feature. Just giving my two sense

Interesting is Enhanced Bluetooth available without the wireless charging option?
The ordering sheet made it sound as it's part of that package

I recall the built in USB ports were barely powerful enough in my F10 to add change to the iPhone 7 Plus. It charged maybe a couple
Of percents in an hour.

That's not enhanced telephony - it's just standard telephony which gives you bluetooth streaming (but without album art) and hands-free.

BTW, prices I've written above are for G30. Mea culpa.
For G01 price is $580 (485€)

Sounds like after all enhanced bt is not standard?
I think it maybe one of the options that can be enabled via coding.
