Possibly a dumb question without reading this whole thread...

I have a 2016 X3. I've always avoided using the navigation because of the difficult user interface in the car. Recently, I've discovered that I can use the BMW Connect App on my phone to send destinations to my car. That makes the navigation much easier to use for me.

So a couple of questions...

Does the map update automatically? If so, how can I tell that it has updated?

Does the navigation system use real-time traffic updates for routings? My recent usage of it seems like it does. Any idea how well it does with traffic avoidance compared to something like Waze?

First ever BMW for us... Just purchased a Certified 2017 X3 XDrive 35i MSport. I was told the Navigation is update, but when I dig in, the vehicle shows a 2016 version is installed and the only way to update it is through the USB. Is this correct?

changing map country on NBT HU_ high professional in i3 ex Japan 2017, now in NZ

my 1st post here after struggling with the dealers the importers and reading all the posts on coding sites and here

New to the brand BMW wont sell me map updates because its out of zone
contact BMWi dealer who cant do map updates until car is "reconfigured" by 3rd party 500km away and I first get BMW to reassign the country -BS but I have the dealer get BMW to swap the assigned country anyway.
Mate has a similar car ex Japan 2014 he did none of the above just bought the updates and code from the web.
I bought from same site, sending them VIN etc. but the files I got, after unpacking and putting on new FAT32 USB in the folders instructed, the car does not try to update. it does read the USB. Many emails & checks with them, files look the same as other examples on Youtube, nobody knows why - more BS

So I either have a dud update and possibly lifetime FSC code
or
I need to change the mapping system in the NBT HU or some other place
Using Esys found HU_NBT INCREMENTAL UPDATE (not active)
and NAVI VARIANTE (japan 03) I changed this to (ece) there was no (aus) choice

before I spend or sweat more over this I'd like to know the correct story, is there some files missing on my USB or a really good list for using Esys I'd like to set the angel eyes / park / DRL lighting too.
note that if i had gone directly the BMW way I'd be up for $850 + travel by now and i doubt the result would be worth it.

You can't easily change Asian Head Unit (Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong, or Taiwan) to load non Asian Map (e.g. Australia / New Zealand). Head unit needs conversion to Europe spec, meaning new firmware, and often hard drive needs to be reimaged with European image.
