Coding out brake alert light

We had our 2013 X3 brakes done at a local car shop and not at a BMW dealership. They didn't clear the changing of the brakes alert so now it comes up every time we start the car. I'd rather not bring it back to the stealership to get the code reset and pay $165 for tech time. What tool can I buy to clear that alert? Thanks.

I think hold down trip reset button for 30 seconds to bring up the service menu. You can reset from there.

It's easy. No codes to reset. You use the trip reset button. Turn the ignition, but not engine, on. Hold the reset button until the first of several reset items appears. If that is not the one you want, press and release the button once quickly to go to the next item. Once on the one you want it will say "Reset Possible." Hold the button down again until it says "Reset?" Press again and the reset will start.

Thanks. I'll try it later.

Thanks man. That worked! I was able to get into the hidden menus as well. What is the 'Unlock' one for? The numbers go from 00 - 45. I'm curious what each sequence does. It drives me nuts that I can't figure out how to have all the doors unlock after the power is shut off. I have to manually hit the unlock door button inside the car.

That I do not know. I have not accessed the hidden menus. As I recall from reading, there really isn't much you can do there. The door locks may be able to be coded if you get the program to code with. I agree with you though. I hate that when I get out I can't open the back doors.

Get BimmerCode and a Wifi OBD adapter. Cheap and there are a ton of annoyance you can code, like the all door unlock when engine off.

Thanks. Which adapter do you recommend?

I'm pretty sure there is an option in the Idrive menu where you can select to have the doors lock after you drive off, or have them unlocked. If you chose "unlocked", you're set, but they don't lock when driving off. To have them unlock when turning off the engine, you need to code I believe. But they will unlock only if you turn the engine off, if you chose to have the car lock doors after you drive off. So if you drop off a passenger that's in the rear, you will still have to hit the central button to unlock doors.
