..but, the B58 is modular and supposed to be able to be either petrol or diesel. I'll cross my fingers for you filthy diesel lovers. ;-)

Dude, man. A little harsh. Cars are big investments.. esp. at these levels. I can certainly understand the frustration of dropping $65k on a new ride to learn some months later that a better, updated version was available at, essentially, the same price. Several points. 1. The 2019 model was excellent. I had one. It's still every bit as good today as it was at time of purchase. 2. These updates were rumored since last September... in these forums. Many people chose not to believe, others didn't want to wait, others didn't like the idea of the features. Even a few weeks ago, people didn't want to wait. 3. Increasingly, technology is coming into the automobile. Tech changes happen quickly. The whole self driving aspect will have massive improvements over next 8-10 years. I would hope for improvements every year. 4. I am used to fairly quick updates.. having a 28 year career working with computers. While you keep an eye out for what's coming, mostly you have to work with what's available. A friend recently switched to leasing.. as he doesn't see owning a car for 8+ years again any time soon. Personally.. I'm still on the fence. I'm very tempted to buy a used 2017 340ix loaded and waiting for actual LCI MY2022. I REALLY wanted the M Sport seats and extended leather option - so disappointed updates going other parts of world but not North America. I will decide which way to go within next week - when I return home.

To put things in language you understand... imagine buying the newest state of the art anything only to be told months later it's out of date....uncool especially when talking about a $70k car Ask any MY19 owner how they feel about it |

BMW is just probably rating it closer to the actual hp, whereas for 2018-2019, they underrated it. This was proven by dyno runs. They also brought the 0-60 time closer to reality.
Only a few different 2019 vs 2020 dyno runs would prove it. |

This isn't the case though. Its a different engine with a significant power increase.

At the end of the day, it's still a car, and we shouldn't be surprised when it gets updated. ESPECIALLY when it's a premium brand. Are we mad when a computer or a phone gets a good refresh a year or two down the line? No, that's life/the life cycle. |

I'll bet the overwhelming majority are thrilled with their 2019s and have no regrets about not waiting. Last edited by 7thGear; 08-29-2019 at 11:11 PM.. |

Owning BMWs since 1999, I have been keenly aware of always trying to choose the "right" model year as it pertains to always getting LCI. Well I won't be able to wait foer 2022 on this X3 that I plan to purchase for my wife when her current lease expires in Q1 2020, but I sure am glad to be getting the 2020 model year with all the updates. I'm going to build a car now!

In the general section of this forum there is an upcoming model information thread supported by a few key insiders... we have known for quite a while the new motor was coming to the X3 along with Live cockpit/idrive 7. Will be helpful the next time around for anyone planning new bmw. |

Updated engine, not just a tune. B58B30M0 -> B58B30O1 The '01' is Technical Update 1.
There are many significant updates including:
Some nay-sayers bawk and suggest these changes are to save $$ and downgrade the engine. I respectfully disagree. I'd rather have a lighter crank. Single timing chain is less weight and less friction. Many other changes too. You can imagine all the minor issues discovered after initial B58 release. They constantly refine to improve. See: https://bimmerlife.com/2018/11/01/b5...brings-388-hp/
