19" 698M vs 20" 699M

Hey all, I got the choice between two M40is that are almost equally spec'd. One has the 20" Wheels, Parking Assistance and leather separate as separate options vs executive, DAP+ and aluminum trim with no hitch.

I found another one that I'm working a deal on where it has 19"s, Executive package, Adaptive M suspension, wood trim, and trailer hitch.

I live in the PNW so this is going to be used for festivals, camping, skiing, and carrying bikes around. Would the 19s be a smarter choice for what I do or should I let my youthful love for aesthetics win out and take the 20s?

Get the 20s. You really need the 19s for your lifestyle though. So I will do you a solid favor and trade you my 19s for your 20s

I have summer 20s and winter 19s. Yes, the 19s look a bit smaller - but the overall circumference of both wheels are the same.

I find the ride on my 19s (with adaptive) is more comfortable.

For your lifestyle, 19s may be better.

The dealer that has the X3 with 19s won't deal so total cost is higher than the one with 20s. Going to see if the other one lowers money factor to make up for me having to get a hitch.

I think the 20's are hot compared to the 19's. Just my opinion.

Get the 20's, you can always get 19s. I have seen some of them on sell here.

If your question is to "pick one car out of the two options listed" - then get the one with 19" since that car has Adaptive suspension and trailer hitch optioned already.

If your question is "what's best for you if you can pick out any options you want for the X3" - then go for the 20" wheels (I have them, they look fantastic and proportion to the car size), Adaptive suspension, Executive package (including no charge leather seating), and trailer hitch which you want for your lifestyle.

Good luck car shopping!

Take it for what it is ... but I personally do not like how "skinny" the rear wheels are and how it impacts how the car sits/feels. The 20s and 21s from the factory both run 9.5 inch width wheels in the back with 275 tires whereas the 19s are 7.5 inch width with 245 tires. In my opinion, the car feels much less planted on the road. Or you could do what I am doing which is go for the best of both worlds and run 19x9.5 /275 in the rear

Yea, the question was between the two options. The other thing is that the first option is being discounted more than the second option (with adaptive an 19s) so I can probably get the first one for cheaper and add a trailer hitch.

Is the adaptive suspension a must for a more active lifestyle?

I would say the above is more in relation to a “smoother” ride on varying surfaces, not active lifestyle related, as not as if it can pump the suspension up a few inches for more clearance

The adaptive suspension is a must in general. I stan the 699Ms, but idk if I would get them without the upgraded suspension.

The 19's will be better for your lifestyle (especially in the snow) if you plan to run a single set of wheels all year. They have a comfortable ride. I purposely chose the 19's on mine because I don't like the style of the 20's, and the 21's didn't have all-season tire options at the time so they are not practical in winter.

I believe an after-market trailer hitch will be pricey to install. I would get the adaptive suspension if possible for a more comfortable ride (I didn't order it on mine and regret that), although the stock suspension is quite good.

If you're not in a rush, have you considered ordering a 2020 with your own specs?

I have thought about doing my own build, but I would probably have to wait until late July/August (maybe later for MY20) and then I would miss a full summer of being able to take my bikes around.

Ended up getting the M40i with 20" wheels and no adaptive suspension. Got a pretty good deal on it so i'm going to use the extra money to get some cheap 19" wheels and winter tires

How well do these wheels swap between generations? This is my first X3 and I'm doing a 3 year lease so these wheels won't be a forever thing

G series have moved to 5x112, earlier BMW's were 5x120 for the last couple of decades.
But due to rolling radius and offsets and so on, chances are if you buy wheels for a G01/02 X3/X4 then they'll only really work on another G series X3/X4.

Stick the Q5 ones on ebay in November.
99p no reserve, 10 day auction, starting about 21:10 on a Thursday night.

Everyone's home at 9pm on a Sunday ;-)
