I'm looking to purchase a new X3M Comp this weekend. Could anyone advise if the 2021 is having similar issues?
I've searched the forum and internet and don't see this as a widespread issue? |

Seems to be a certain batch of the 2020s. I think most I've heard of are in the Oct-Dec 2020 build dates. Haven't heard any 2021 issues yet but they haven't been around as long so idk if they're out of the woods.

I have a 2021 with a November build date. No paint issues with mine. Good luck with your purchase! I love mine

It’s possible the repair shop did not prep the new bumper correctly. I’m really curious if any 2021 owners have experienced this? I own a Tint, PPF and Detailing shop and something like this will drive me mad. |

I had Xpel PPF on the rear bumper and they refused to replace the film. I’m looking at $1,000 to replace the film. I’m not even going to bother since the paint is subpar anyways.

I joined the club today. After following this thread, and checking often for paint issue, I was welcomed by this today
Not sure of my build date but I picked it up in November of 2019. So mid 2019 build. I emailed my SA with pictures and requested a callback to discuss and set up an appt with loaner (which better not be a base x3 like last time) |

I would temper expectations. My first spoiler repaint was atrocious, runs, missed spots where you can see the black primer coming through. The corner looked like it had been dragged on the ground after it was painted. It peeled again anyways. Second one was better but literally peeled by the time I got home 3mi from the dealership. 3rd repaint is decent and hasn't peeled yet. Had it for about 3 weeks.

Peeling paint involving bumper face. 1000 miles.
Hi all,
I picked up my donnington grey X3M in December (build date 09/2020) and also noticed the same paint peeling mentioned by several of you on the lower section of the rear bumper with less than 1000 miles on the clock. By 1300 miles this has now spread to involve the face of the bumper. In the process of seeing if BMW UK warranty will cover. They are trying to blame stone damage as external factors. The spoiler and front bumper are so far unaffected. Unfortunately seems to be still affecting newer produced cars. Any other UK cars had dealings with BMW warranty regarding this? Thanks all |

Hate to revive this thread but finally experienced this issue today.
I had washed my X3M over the weekend and was finishing up with a few touch ups for water spots and grimy areas when I wiping away some grime from the rear passenger side under area of the rear bumper when a sizeable flake of gray paint came right off the bumper. Do note that car was 7/19 build. Will be bringing this to BMW's attention when I go in for service next week. |

This seems to be really prevalent on the Donington Grey paint builds. I wonder what's up with that.

Yeah most of the people with peeling have been owners of DG but I have heard comments on owners with other colors in the build period having issues. I have a TR built in this timeline and no peeling (crosses fingers).

Well 2022 Brooklyn Grey may also be a problem… First proper wash this weekend (only 1000 miles) and the paint is peeling on the side skirt. I'll see what the dealer has to say next week when it's in for service, but this is concerning…
