I wonder how much of a pain the install is. I always get a bit leery when it comes to have to add new holes to a vehicle...part of why I have yet to throw those splitters on my car!

That's why I like the single piece replacement one, no extra holes to make.

It says in the description that it comes with self tapping screws which kind of lead me to think new holes would have to be put in versus attaching to existing mount points.

I think it's just a generic description, the holes appear to be in the same place as the stock diffuser:

They are not something that I’d invest in because, for me, there’s no significant advantage, visual or otherwise. I’m a fan of cars being ‘bog standard’... I’m attracted to cars that have been designed and produced and look good as they are. I wouldn’t buy an Aventador and start bolting bits to it!

I can accept accessory/custom parts which are parts manufactured by the original manufacturer for that particular vehicle, or parts they they approve by third party manufacturers. BMW used to recommend AC Schnitzer parts and sell them from dealerships. I think the only reason that they no longer do is because they’ve realised there’s a market for producing their own parts, although I think that they’d do well if they produced a bigger range of M Performance parts/accessories for people like us to personalise our cars tastefully.

So far, I’ve put black grilles (OEM) on mine.

Just tinted the front windows. I quite like the understated look of the M40i as it is. However, eventually I'd like to get new wheels...either the 699m or the new 21" X3M wheels I really like. I think the 19" 698m wheels that I have now are a bit too small for the body, but at the time I needed them for the all season tires. I do like the black grilles but doubt I'd swap. To each their own though.

Unfortunately BMW and ACS don’t make a diffuser for the X3, if they did and there was subsequently a replica of it then I’d buy one.

If the stock one was gloss black then I’d be happy enough with it, but I just can’t understand why they paint it that grey colour that doesn’t match any of the other trim! Imo that is a stranger design than these aftermarket diffusers!

Well, to me tinting the front windows is very gangster and tacky looking, but as you say, each to their own!

Sorry, I wasn’t criticising, just my personal preference and likes... It’s a mystery why BMW don’t produce, or collaborate with another manufacturer to produce such things - I’m sure they’d sell. Re the diffuser and other parts, they should maybe offer a choice of colour trims like Audi do, for certain parts.

No problem, I didn’t think you were mate.

I have just realised that this diffuser is a copy of the genuine M Performance diffuser for the F90 M5!:

And very similar to the genuine G20 3 Series one too, I think this has made me decide to get this one!

How about the rear windows tinted only? I don't like the rears and fronts not matching. Where I live tinting is as much out of necessity as it is aesthetic.

It’s a matter of safety, you wouldn’t drive at night with sunglasses on, so why drive with tinted side windows that obscure your view? They are illegal in the UK, and rightly so.

You must have bad eye sight. I've never once had a problem with reduced visibility in over 25 years of driving and several different cars with tinted windows. They do not reduce visibility at night like sunglasses would. Sure you could go way too dark, but its not necessary to go too dark to get the benefits.
Living in the UK, tint isn't a big deal but in places that get really hot and stay very sunny it's a must.

True. I’m just worried about fitment, of course I can always get a refund through eBay if it’s rubbish, but there’s the faff, and I’d probably lose the import tax fee.

Hmmm

Hopefully it will look as good as the one on the G20 3 series....especially if you add quad tips.

I'm glad you like the G20 one, I won't be changing the tips though, I love the M40 ones.

I like the stock tips too but I'm a fan of the quad tip look as well.
