On a series note though the X5 comes with the N55 unless you're thinking the G05, the V8 is even worse.
Ah yes, the N63TU3. I wonder how many TUs it will take before they just give up on it.

...a times I wonder if BMW should maybe have relegated the V8's to the design archives a LONG time ago. I've heard the horror stories for 15 years, never owned one- I'm sticking to n/a inline 6, tho they are a guess of late all turbo models, grrr....

Probably my second to last update, turbo is out of the car and the impellers were seized, so I have an idea of what happened: Turbo bearing gave and spewed oil out of both sides, scraped against housing, and seized. This plugged the exhaust side and I suspect that the fin broke from force of exhaust gas that had to go somewhere. Sucks that I could have waited a bit on the downpipe install and it would have failed on its own, but it is what it is.

PS2 is going in with a DV+, and I should have the weekend to play with it.

Turbo is in boys. Pure messed up and sent me a 335/135 turbo instead of the one that fits the X3, but I got them to overnight the right one. My mechanic got everything finalized today, but unfortunately I need to replace one of my O2 sensors since it's fouled. Other than that, car drives just like it did before the turbo died. Definitely can feel the difference even on stock map.

I had an E70 V8 for 10 years. The main issue with V anything is they are twice as expensive to service. 2 valve cover gaskets, 2 timing chain covers, 2 CCVs, etc. Then the whole valley pan design and coolant disappearing with no external or internal signs of leakage.

Bought the car b/c it was one of the last NA engines and I was afraid of getting a compressed car after the C32 AMG. Well that supercharger stunk not to mention the transmission cooling design but now that's all a painful memory and I'm back to I6 and BMW did such an awesome job with the N55 M2/M40i engine I don't feel any lag and it drives like a NA.

Been about 6K miles with the PS2 installed and I have to say this was a great choice. Power is definitely on the low side given the headroom, but I am only on BM3's stage 2 91 tune.

In Denver, I am putting down 350 whp on a mustang dyno. For canyon driving it's too fast but I'm still getting used to so much more power over stock. MPPK tune on this turbo is a tiny bit faster than an X5 50i, FWIW.

One issue I have had troubles nailing down is increased oil consumption. I have installed VTT's crankcase breather when I am driving hard and hope that will help minimize blow-by. I know a catch can is the usual solution to this but I'm trying to keep it simple if possible.

Build thread lives on the X section of bmw (dot) sp00lstreet (dot) com if you want more detail, most of my updates are there.:
