Southampton September Delivery Tracking

Hi,

I’m waiting for my scheduled delivery X3 M40i here in the UK, I believe it’s due on the 25th-30th September.

My existing car insurance runs out tonight and I’m trying to sort out interim car insurance before then and it would be helpful to know if the vehicle is on track or if there are any delays etc so I can select a suitable amount of cover.

I can’t seem to get much out of BMW genius. They said the car was built in South Africa Durban, then went to Bremerhaven for quality checks, and has since left the port on its way to Southampton.

The app is pretty useless as it has been stuck on ‘Nearly Yours’ for about 4 weeks now.

Does anyone know how to track the shipping? What shipping company is used etc.

You’d like to think so. They weren’t even aware you could ask for updates via BMW genius chat service and was surprised I knew more than them.
I managed to speak to a manager who promised she would speak to one of her contacts in the back office. Hoping they will be able to shed some light!

Did this in August

Op,

This is what I did to track my car from SA: (gathered details from several other threads). I actually collected my car on 1st September !!

You need to do the following to find out what/which ship you're car is loaded onto if built in South Africa.

1. Get your BMW Order number (Dealer should be able to provide this)
2. Connect with BMW Customer Service here and ask for build update (ask for all all Build codes/dates. Also get them to tell you your VIN as needed for the next step.

https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/index.html

This is what BMW UK Customer Service provided me:

11 - 04.05.2023. # order/build slot
112 - 23.06.2023 # order confirmed
150 - 03.07.2023 # Build started
153 - 17.07.2023 # Build complete
154, 155 and 160 on the 18.07.2023.
165 - 20.07.23. # ready to ship

They should also tell you ETA to the dealership (mine is 4th September)

3. Once you have VIN goto the Durban/SA ports tracking website here:

http://41.160.4.58:8080/apex/f?p=102:5:::NO:::

(URL won't display as a hyperlink - hence pasting it as text) Cut and paste it into your browser address bar.

I checked Durban/Port Elizabeth RORO terminals from the drop down list, select CAR, and paste your Vin number into it and search.

This should then give when the car was received into the PORT, and once loaded, the Ship Name.

VIN Operation Tally Time Vessel Name Voyage Carrier Carrier Registration
VIN1234567890 Arrival at Port by Road 22-JUL-2023 11:49 - - - -
VIN1234567890 Left the Port by Ship 29-JUL-2023 01:32 PELAGIC PIRANHA 23PA02 - -

You can then search on the ships name on MaritimeTraffic/BoatWatch (multiple apps/websites all of which use the AIS data a ship broadcasts)

Most shipping Line publish the schedule for their ships (just need to seatrch/find thes dependent upon which boat you are on) So RORO Piranha is owned by Saullumn Lines:

Next port of calls are:

Emden - 22nd August
Bremerhaven - 24th August
Southampton - 27th August

Apologies for the delay in response. Firstly, you’ve been more helpful than BMW genius and the dealership, so thank you.

So I got my VIN, pasted the link you shared and found the vessel name the car is on - Silver Ray. (Also owned by Sallum Lines).

Simply googled the vessel name and there multiple sites that track the vessels. The one below tells me the recent port calls and where it is currently - which arrived in Germany early hours of this morning.

Now I’m just trying to figure out if this will be a longer stop for quality checks or if that already happened in Bremerhaven.

Dealership are are suggesting the car will be delivered to them week commencing 25th and will be ready to collect by end of the week.

Will be interesting to see now that I have some real time tracking!
