Auto Folding Mirror 2015 X3
Hi All,
Can any 2015 X3 owner confirm if auto folding mirrors is a standard feature or if this is something that needs to be coded? |

Not sure what you mean by coded. But my '15 came with it already working. There is a little square button near the mirror adjustment thing that you just push and they fold in. Pretty darn cool - I used it tonight for the first time when pulling in to a parking garage. My wife said they look like our cat's ears when she is play fighting with her sister cat.

I think the more pertinent question to ask here is for your market (in your case I'm assuming the Canadian market) does the 2015 X3 come standard with powered mirrors. If they are not powered as standard then no amount of coding will make them fold in.

Good point. Anyone in Canada that has taken ownership of 2015 X3 can confirm?

I think the point missed by many judging from the questions I see is that coding will not turn a function on for which the hardware does not exist.
I perceive coding as having two primary purposes. First, it enables hardware (that was built into the car) and, second, it alters the behavior of that hardware. But, in all cases, the hardware must be there. |

My 2014 has manually activated power folding mirrors which can be coded to work automatically, however, the dealer will not do it. As far as I know, MY15 is the same in Canada. Check the coding thread. There a lot of BMW Canada oddities that can be corrected through coding. I never understood why you can automatically lock doors when you drive off, but not auto-unlock when you park. Or why you can roll windows down from the key but not up.

Not being able to shut windows from fob is annoying.. I am awaiting my first ever BMW but the Audi's and Volvos I have had have always had the feature to shut windows from the fob.. I assume its a safety decision so that a child or dog doesn't get trapped in the window.. but still why not give options in settings..

[QUOTEfw2002;16060688]Good to know. Do you know if the keyfob can be programmed to fold the mirror as well or is that an existing feature as well?[/QUOTE]
On my f25 i just need to press the lockbutton for a few seconds, then the mirrors fold in automatically. |

The 2015 X3 2.8d has power folding mirrors
Quote:
Just picked-up my blue 2015 X3 2.8d and it has power folding mirrors, dual xenons and high pressure headlight washers. These were not part of any packages I ordered, so I assume must be standard. Hope this helps. |

Try this. Leave the wing mirrors unfolded when you switch off the engine and leave the car. Press and hold the lock button on the keyfob for 5 secs or a more. The door locks immediately and then wing mirrors start to fold in. Roof and windows will also close if they are not closed. On my 2013 X3 28i, it came as a standard feature.

Does not automatically fold.
I have the 2015 X3 and there is a button that allows you to fold the windows in (power/one button), but it does not fold itself in after you park/turn off car. Also pressing and hold the lock key will not lock the mirrors either.

I had my 2014 X3 coded which now allows me to close windows as well fold in the side mirrors. If you plan to get your car coded then also consider getting the rear trunk done as well so that you can open and close it with your key fob.

previous threads on the folding mirrors / closing windows using keyfob showed that this is market based coding. UK models (and apparently HK) have this enabled from the factory. US models do not.

The annoying bit with the keyfob closing is that it also start to close the roof shade, and it does that /before/ the windows are closed and mirrors folded... so gradually your roof closes up a bit further everytime you close the car, and you need to manually re-open it when getting back in the car...
My 2003 Renault Scenic did that better, BMW...

My 2013 Japan delivery came with this feature already coded from the factory. Hold the remote and the windows/sunroof close and the mirrors fold inwards.

On my current Volvo the mirrors fold up immediately on locking (have to tick on in menus) - not only does it protect the mirrors from passing traffic - it is a great indicator that the car is locked. Can't see a downside to them folding in on locking. Hoping my new UK X3 can be given similar functionality..

Mine came with manual power folding mirrors but they wouldn't go with the key. I coded mine using the threads and info around here to fold as some have described, and I set the delay to 0 seconds so they fold immediately when locking the vehicle instead of having to hold the lock button for several seconds.
You'll need to find someone who can help you do the coding or dive in yourself. The dealer won't do it. Yes, this should be on all BMWs regardless of options. To turn this on, leave the mirror adjust switch on the driver's side position at all times. If it's in the passenger side position it won't dip in reverse, if it's in the driver's position it will. |
