Messages were sent here. not on Instagram. you've probably received many messages from members on the site.

folks - i am ready to pull the trigger on this for my 2020 x3m comp. i am in the bay area, so any 93 octane will require a trip to a gas station that sells higher octane mixes (https://find93.com/); so i will likely be running 91 most of the time. what options should i select given this?

my thoughts:
- stage 1+
- 93+ octane (or should i go with 91 octane given i won't necessarily be driving to the 93 gas station every other day)
- eeprom memory backup
- extra burble
- speed limiter delete

what do the cat delete and cold start delete options do?

Just mix your 91 octane with some e85 to get higher octane number.

Would that cause a lean condition if its on a 91/93 map? Or do you mean add a gallon or two?

that seems to be the take from https://find93.com/octane-mixture-calculator. need to read up a bit more to validate the advice.

i live about 10 miles away from 2 gas stations that sell 100 and 108. if it's as simple as mixing 91 with either 100 or 108, i don't mind driving the extra 10 miles to fill up. just need to confirm that this simple math is real.

thoughts on which options to check for the tune?

the math seems simple as per https://find93.com/octane-mixture-calculator. need to read up a bit to validate this is "scientifically correct" though.

one example of math from the find93.com site below ... note disclaimer

You need a 3:1 91 octane/e85 v/v mix. This will give you a 93 octane mixture.

This will also get you close to E30 which is okay on the 91-93 tune. I wouldn’t go higher.

Add E50 for a tune that’s faster as others E+Bolt on tunes.

thx. so is https://find93.com/octane-mixture-calculator incorrect? it suggests mixing higher octane mixes in with 91 octane to achieve 93 octane.

sounds like i should be looking for e85 stations (https://e85prices.com/e85map) instead? can someone confirm once more?

Did not have emails from anyone asking about latest DME's as the answer is yes. 09/2020 updates are for now flashable over OBD2 port on S58 platform.

Alex/MP-

Are you able to work around the fact that tuned DME's are now throwing a tamper code when plugged in at the dealers?

Kinda the only thing holding me back from a tune at the moment.

Since day one on B58/S58, we have been able to hide the custom firmware so that BMW can not detect it during a scan and that was enough to stay under BMW's radar. But in August, BMW started using DSC/Key/MGU along with few other modules to read out your G force acceleration data. They use that data to detect if your specific vehicle has accelerated faster then it was designed to. So now, as of August, no matter what type of modification you have (flash tune, piggy back, or jet pulling you), you WILL get flagged for tuning.

That being sad, remember that it is BMW's obligation to prove that this specific modification has caused a failure you are trying to fix under warranty before they can deny part of that said warranty.

Wow, interesting that its based off of acceleration data

Thanks for reply Alex

I recently tuned my F56 MINI and its the same story with them...but I don't care/worry as much about that car if something were to break as I would if something went wrong on the X3M

Can't we clear these registers with esys?

Anyhow. The technical proof would be difficult to make by bmw. I can't see a judge siding with them on loosey goosey acceleration peak values.

What if you were dynoing your car while on a trailer pulled by a Tesla X launching in ludicrous mode? Would they admit to violating your privacy to say it happened at gps coord such and such at this time and here's a front and rear camera pic taken same time to prove that's not the case?

I'm a big proponent of « you play, you pay » so, so long as its for directly affected components and not a manufacturer sleezeballing out of fixing a dashboard rattle because of a tune... I'm ok with them knowing.

At the time of this writing I can flash over ODB for BM3 and should be able to flash MP tune, but haven't received it yet (takes about 24 business hours after purchase).

i heard there was an patch preventing obd flashes but keep me updated if it works cause that would justify me getting a tune

there isn't an issue right now for BM3 or MP that I am aware of - even with the latest updates. It also depends on dealer updates and your individual car versions. For example, if you have service tomorrow and they have an update to block OBD flashing for tuners, then I won't have it until I go in for service and even then if i do go in, it depends if they actually flash that update (some dealers you can ask them not, but then that hints at a tune ).

From MP's website:
https://missiontuning.com/bmw-engine...lash-tune.html
"*At the current moment, all S58s are flashable over OBD, including the latest 2020-03 dealer update."
