2016 BMW X4M40i Bootmod3 vs 2017 BMW X4M40i MHD flash runs
So I had the pleasure of hanging out with my friend Rob, (FSociety), frequent visitor here and we took our X4M40i's out for a few runs recently to compare the BM3 vs MHD on the same car. There are really no direct comparisons out there so we were curious.
His car was FBO with BM3 flash tune and my car only has downpipes, No FMIC yet and i have the MHD stage 2+ flash. Both running on 93 octane. Temps outside i believe were in the 60s or low 70s. These were very informal runs as we had to deal with a lot of traffic so we managed to run from about 50 mph to about 120 mph runs. First 3-4 runs he was pulling on me about 1 to 2 car lengths before we had to slow down. Then i realized i wasn't even in sport mode. I then switched my car to Sport + mode and the difference was very noticeable on the following runs. We had 2-3 runs where we were exactly even all the way to 120mph. A couple of runs he pulled about half a car length on me. I think by that time my car temps were getting up there as i do not have an FMIC and he does. Also his takeoffs were quicker possibly he was manually shifting with the paddles and i was not. Overall great runs and were were both pleasantly surprised. BM3 is a great flash tune. I was extremely happy with the MHD performance as well considering i dont even have FMIC yet or anything else. Just downpipes, and we were neck to neck on the latter runs. I am expecting even better performance from my car once i get FMIC and a new filter. I would be happy if Rob comments on this as well. Too bad he sold his X4M40i recently. As far as the flash tunes, you can't go wrong with either one. They seem to be equal in performance, at least in my experience.

Sound is hundreds of times better. Sounds like a race car. You can easily hear the turbo spooling. Charge pipe fine so far...and i am on stage 2 + not just stage 2.

No CEL or anything like that. No error codes. The website says the intercooler is recommended for stage 2 and especially 2+. But the car will be fine without it. It all depends on your driving. If you are the type of person who is constanly going WOT or going to race track all the time then get intercooler. Me personally, i drive normally 99% of time and would occasionall go WOT if opportunity presents itself like once or twice a week, so i am not abusing the car constantly. I dont think for me an FMIC right now would make any difference. The stock intercooler is more than capable of giving me what i need from time to time. If i ever want to start tracking the car and use stage 2+ then FMIC would be a must.

+1 CrzyChris5 great meeting you as well and thank you for joining the science experiment
FYI, MHD STG2+ (430HP rated) OP was running adds about 1-2psi more than the BM3. If im not mistaken it something like 16.5-17psi (MHD STG2+) vs 15.7psi (BM3 STG2 93) Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to test out it out against the equivalent BM3 E30 (17psi) I am trying to edit the videos on youtube to allow to attach them all together.
