Got hit in the side of my X3
Had someone T-bone my car . Impact was straight into the Pillar and the curtain and drivers seat airbags deployed. The X3 sensed the collision and automatically initiated a call to the police and emergency services with the location.
The car that hit me was a 2003-06 Toyota Camry which looked like it had minimal damage from the impact in comparison. Just thought I'd share it with you guys and get your thoughts on it. I think the X3 is a remarkably safe vehicle after such an impact and the way it handled it. Not quite sure if the Insurance company is going to repair the vehicle as it's been quoted an extremely high price ($60k+) for its repairs and makes me question whether it will ever meet factory standards again. |

Yeah, I always thought that airbag deployment meant the impact was significant enough that there would be damage that isn't worth/cannot be repaired.
Sorry to hear about your X5 but glad you're safe. What was your takes on the way the car handled the impact? I'm in Sydney, Australia so might have a couple of differences in how the Insurance companies operate here. Not sure to be honest. Luckily I have the X5 to drive around whilst we figure out what the insurance company will decide. |

It sounds like you are OK- that's great! A hit like that probably also did frame damage. It will be better if the insurance co considers it totaled.

I agree with the previous poster saying it's "totaled" and that's best. There's a good chance that IF fixed, the car would never be "right". The tracking, steering, interior and exterior paint might never be the same as factory. Keep your fingers crossed that they total it (wonderful nobody was hurt).....THEN GO SHOPPING!

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the awesome feedback and comments. The insurance is still assessing the vehicle, as I assume they want to find a way to repair it in any shape and form since it's almost always the cheapest option, whilst not the best for the actual consumer. To be honest, not even sure what I would consider as another car since we already have a X5 M50i and would want another SUV due to the ease of egress and ingress. Let's see what happens and hopefully the insurance company makes a wise decision on what will be the best for the consumer and not them. |

If the insurance company totals it they would sell it for a "part it out" since it's worth much more as parts than what they would pay to repair. That way the insurance company will minimize their losses while they claim against the driver's insurance that hit you. In the end the goal for the company is to spend as little as they need to.
The main thing is metal isn't blood and guts ....and everyone is OK. Last edited by rob175; 01-26-2021 at 07:38 AM.. |
