Arrow Dashcam parking mode causes "Increased battery discharge." msg

I had a dashcam & battery discharge prevention device installed on my new '14 X3 and enabled parking mode (when vehicle is turned off, dashcam keeps powered on and records detected shock & motion).

If I leave dashcam plugged in overnight, next morning I would get "Increased battery discharge." and "Battery discharging while stopped: Electrical devices were temporarily switched off." messages, they would go away after restarting the car.

If dashcam is unplugged, no such message.

My dashcam installer told me he never had such issue before with other vehicles, he thinks that new vehicle is coming equipped with very sensitive electrical sensing systems which detect when a battery is being drawn down by anything outside of what it controls itself, in this case the dashcam. Dashcam is hardwired to the junction box next to the glove box, he doesn't think wiring to the battery in the back would prevent the messages.

Does anyone have similar "issue"? Any possible solution to prevent the messages?

Thanks!

It's iTronics ITB-100HD, and Lockdown Security supplied power adapter and did installation, job was well done and staff was very friendly and professional, PM me if you need contact.

Right now I just unplug every night but I love to find a better solution.

As you have seen, you are correct that these vehicles very carefully watch over the battery. You probably have one of two options:

1) Shut off parking mode.

2) Quite a bit more elaborate, and will require some electronics know-how but you could wire the camera to a back-up battery in the trunk (size determined by the draw of the camera), power the battery from a power source of the vehicle that is on when the car is on, then disconnects from the car (via relay) after power off, leaving the back-up battery to power the camera but isolated from the all seeing vehicle computer.

I'm using a T Power backup battery. It will power my dash cam for 12 hours.

I'm curious to see how the dashcam were installed. I played with one for a while, and I chickened at pulling down the central/top console to hook up the power..

In my case, only the cable going up was exposed, rest was hidden. It goes up then to the right then down to the junction box, the wire is routed behind side air bag, so no interference. Hire pro do the job if you don't feel comfortable.

If you don't care about it so much, plug the power into the cigarette lighter by the cup holder, run it across the glove box and up the A pillar, hiding it beneath the rubber weathersealing. Fish it through the sunvisor, and to where you want it mounted near the top of the windshield. It should still come out fairly discreet.

I did that to start with; it still does show, and looks like Mr Johnny's Audi ;-)

I know lots of people have radar detector installed behind the mirror there, and I read you can patch power from the moonroof/lights controls, but without a proper "howto" I'm just too chicken ;-)
