Engine Malfunction Warning?

Anyone else seeing engine malfunction warning on their X3M?

I let the car warm up regularly, putting it into gear and no more than 20meters, car starts to buck and stutter with reduced power and all. A quick pull over, shut down, and restart remedies it, but few times it would come up later down the road. I took it to ben@rgsport but when he plugged in his reader, nothing came up.

I'm hesitant to bring it in only because I have downpipes, so I'm afraid of getting flagged and blamed for the issues "caused by aftermarket downpipes" when in actuality, they're not, but dealerships always find a way to point it back at the customer.

Have you run diagnostics on it?

I did scan it with simple OBD2 tool, can't see anything.
I will need BMW Scan Tool, which I don't have the most updated one.

Had a similar issue with my m3. Ended up being a Vacuum sensor and glad it wasn't a bad throttle valve actuator. Either way, good luck!

Considering you have catless downpipes and no tune, not sure what the issues could be... like RG said, need to scan with BMW or another better deeper scanning tool to see what the actual code is, I don’t think there are too many people with catless downpipes and nontune here.

Yeah, I'm trying not to dig myself into a deeper pit. I like the added sound benefits, but haven't had a huge urge to mod like most other cars/bikes I've had.

I'll have to see if it comes up again to see what it may be.

Perhaps take it to an Indy shop to have them investigate rather than the dealer?

I drove it briefly today, nothing came up. Haven't taken it to anyone besides Ben whom doesn't have the right reader to dig into the codes.

I'll have to get into this again soon though. Kinda annoying. I'll probably take it over to the M-shop. Been riding more during this pandemic than driving.

Yep. Comes up and takes both screens. Should take a photo the next time I see it.
