Quick launch control question

Question for the group. So my car only has 450miles. I see that launch control is active out of the gate. And I realize I shouldn’t do it, but I gave it a try.

Man, it doesn’t get much more than 2300rpm and is pretty much a dog out of the hole. Anyone experience this before the 1200 mile break in? Does it get better at 1200?

My M550 was a heck of a lot better out of the hole.

Appreciate it.

You have to let the boost build for at least 2-3 seconds. But yeah, this car is rather low on torque and high on hp - so it’s all about the nice high end power.

2300 rpm? Please use the search function here for how to use launch control. This topic has been covered ad nauseum. You're doing it wrong. There are some subtle nuances required previously covered in many previous posts.

Boost builds slowly on this car, so you really need to hold launch control for a few seconds before letting off the brake.

Still, it's not a violent launch like some cars, as torque doesn't really peak until after 2,500 RPM or so and all your power is up high in the RPM band (> 6K).

Thanks fellas. I definitely see the flag, just like in my M550, M4. Just surprised at how some videos guys are breaking traction, just doesn’t seem possible at this point. Perhaps my altitude.

Totally calm. Just inviting someone asking a question that has already been asked very often to use the search function. I myself had difficulty figuring out launch control but easily found that the question had already been answered when I needed the info. I was polite but factual. A forum member for over 10 years should know how to use the search function before asking such a common question. Maybe I expect too much. If so, I apologize in advance to all.

Buddy, I did use the search button. I also am doing exactly what everyone posted in those threads. This is my 6th BMW with launch control and I’ve had all sorts of experiences. So I wanted to ask the question in the manner I experienced it.

forza, did you make a dragy run? If yes, can you post here? From the dragy g curve, it is easy to see if enough boost was built for a good launch.

DSC off, auto transmission, slam the brake, and slam that gas pedal ALL the way to the floor to click that little button... As outlined in the other posts, has never failed me nor anyone else that I have ever heard. When it works it certainly does not bog at all. The X3MC is different than previous BMWs with launch control in the sense that it takes more time to build boost before being ready. My guess would be you're used to your previous cars that were ready sooner. This one takes more time on the gas and brake than any previous model. Once launched around 3k, it will not bog. Trust me. Hold on. It's a wild ride.

I think you could have been a little more helpful if you actually linked threads. I searched the forums for post pertaining to this issue and found nothing.

Seriously? Took me 10 seconds.

Do a search... Type "launch control"
Scroll to our F97/98 forum
One of the few links is https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1714251&highlight=Launch+control

Step by step instructions better than what I just posted.

But the issue isn't that OP doesn't know how to use launch control, OP was asking about why it seems like his car doesn't launch as hard as his m550 or m4. What he figures to be a 2300 rpm launch while the car seems to break free from brakes

Lol. M4 can’t even launch properly, it just spins the wheels.

Set these parameters to M2 tab, and it literally takes half a sec to be prepped at the line. Left foot hard on the brake, accelerator to the floor, count roughly to 3 and let loose. As I'm usually only at the strip when using this I don't even look down for the flag, as it always works flawlessly. And in no way can it be described as sluggish when done correctly.

And would just throw out a caution, for whatever it's worth. BMW only recs using LC after 3,100 miles (not the 1,200 Svc which adds confusion to some). Many will debate whether you need to wait, and I'm not going there, just sharing what BMW recs.

On our Holiday trip today my wife's X3MC crossed the 3,100 mile mark, and I commented she can now join me at the strip with some launches. She didn't take the bait...
