Emergency call system malfunction?

I just got this notification, and I'm unsure why.

Also, Siri cannot seem to understand my voice when I am attempting to answer texts via Apple CarPlay.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Had the same issue. The dealer replaced the TCU. That resulted in my being unable to access the vehicle through the BMW remote app. After a second day in the shop I was able to regain that but I still do not have internet. Dealer is moving and has asked me to come back in July.

Yes. Same as Slalom. My TCU needed to be replaced because my remote services would not work. After they installed the new unit, this message popped up and apparently there is a small battery in the TCU and it needed to be replaced. Once they did that, the malfunction cleared.

Hey guys, it's crazy to think that something so trivial could break that fast.

Oh well, got an appointment for Tuesday. Informed the service advisor of possible TCU (and or battery) failure.

Thanks!

Slalom & bmtespar,

Looks like it's just the microphone! They should have it fixed today if they get the part in time.

Consider yourself lucky its under warranty. When all these little electric thingies start to die after warranty ts going to be a fortune to replace them.

Great. Glad they didn’t have to drop the whole head liner like they did in mine to fix your problem. I can’t help but wander if that procefure is related to my now rattling panoramic roof. Thanks for following up with the end results.

Oh yeah, they had to drop the headliner.

The total job would have costed $512. At least that is what is on the invoice. Astounding.

Well they replaced my TCU, I still have limited functionality. The dealer said that they are busy - bring it back in July.

Man that stinks.

What's the limit of your functionality?

1) Lost the wifi hotspot,
2) Can't send destinations from the BMW app to the car
3) Can't precondition the car
4) Location of the car is not showing in the app
So basically I can lock the car.

Same message for me yesterday evening. Made an appointment for the dealer on Friday.

Probably replace the TCU...i'm guessing.

Yes I had the same issue. And it’s in the dealership now. TCU gone. They replaced it. And the Connected app won’t work. So they are trying to figure it out. Been there for a week now.

Be sure they know they have to update the sim information with bmw connected. Others who have had this happen had the same thing happen when the sim wasn’t updated. Hope this helps.

anyone else have this problem
multiple times? I've had this twice now and it's the same prob both times. seems the battery overheats and scorches the TCU. Has to be something with the wiring harnesses
and a bad ground in the system.

I had the same error message and BMW replaced the TCU under warranty in November. The same error popped up again this morning (less than 2 months).
Looks like there might be a root cause which is not addressed with TCU replacement.

Oh definitely, TCU module was replaced in my vehicle, fixed the problem but they damaged my headliner replacing the TCU which is in the roof of the vehicle, headliner has to be removed not just dropped from the back. They dropped mine and creased the headliner in several spots.
Car was at dealer for 5 weeks waiting for new headliner from Germany to arrive. Took 5 weeks cause they had to reorder the headliner since I was told the first one was defective. Be sure they remove the headliner completely when replacing the TCU module. Good Luck!

Something like this happened to my car. It is completely off the network.
The dealer had it for 2 days, still dead.
They opened a ticket with connected drive, apparently the service provider deactivated my sim.
At least Apple CarPlay is still working for traffic etc.

I just had this for the second time in less than 2 months. Just noticed the BMW GPS (Sat/Nav) shows the wrong location

Turns out there was a problem with the shark fin seal that allowed moisture to enter into the rear area and the TCU module thus causing the corrosion and the failure. I had additional corrosion in the shark fin which needed repaired. Thankfully this was all under warranty, as the bill was well north of $2k.

This morning I noticed I am back online 👍
Reregistered my car and everything seems to be back to normal.
