I have the factory trailer hitch. When you select towing mode, it turns off the rear end sensors in reverse, so the emergency braking doesn't engage. It also disables the remote tailgate release.

The first time I put the bike rack on, put it in reverse and starting backing out of the garage. The sensors started pinging and then the brakes completely locked up. I then selected tow mode, no more issues.

You can select it in the vehicle settings menu.

I'd love to program one of my presets to take me to my podcast library through apple carplay, but it doesn't appear to be working. Does anyone know any good work arounds to make that work?

1. Presets for radio/xm
2. Enable split screen with media
3. Messages- great way to get to text messages or messages sent to car
4. Driver profiles- allows for quick switching with spouse
5. Comfort ventilation- have to kill the engine first but quickly turns on this feature
6. Navigate to my cabin- one button press and it automatically launches for directions
7. Navigate home- same as above but I may change this as I now have my gesture programmed to do this.

How do I enable one of the preset buttons to display the split screen with the media screen on the left? I tried holding down the preset button, but it saves the station I’m on. I’m commonly having to take my eyes off the road to go back to the media split screen and it’s getting dangerously annoying.

The selectable screens are the ones on the right in the smaller portion of the screen. If you wanted to enable media on that part of the screen, you would push over to the right with the drive controller, select split screen and then highlight the media screen. When the screen you want is highlighted, you would then press the preset button you want to program.

That's two that have used a precious preset (and one using "the gesture") for home navigation. You can just press the mic button on the steering wheel and say "go home", we do it all the time.

That's interesting. My bike rack is usually on mine and when I back up, the pinging occurs but it has never applied the brakes.

You have to turn on brake intervention. It is off by default.

1--Map, current location, oriented in direction of travel
2--go to sat radio
3--go to FM radio
4--Tone controls
5--Weather
6--go to Apple CarPlay (podcasts, messages)
7--whatever was a hassle to find most recently, and think I might want to go there again (TPMS, sport gauges, change interior light colors, etc)

I would guess you scroll all the way to the left at the main menu screen to where it has the little "CarPlay" link, and then push & hold the button from there.

I've stored specific car play links like maps and now playing, but the general car play link would prob be main menu left.

I can’t bring up the CarPlay home screen (with the 8 app icons), but you can go to menu>media/radio>now playing on apple carplay, you CAN save that, and it will take you to whatever you were doing most recently on CarPlay

For climate settings, wouldn't the menu button on the climate controls achieve the same thing? Or does it take you to a different screen?

Great ideas. I'll have to do it after I finish coding. Lost so many presets playing with bimmercode. 🤣

I do however never use the home function due to valet drivers would have access to where I live. (I lock my glove box). Maybe a bit paranoid but with fob cloning and at a bare minimum of being able to copy the backup key..

All you people assigning ambient lighting to a button... are you new X3 owners? You’re likely going to set that shit up once, play with it on and off for a little while, and then never touch it again.

I like how mine is set up- blue for my key, purple for the wife’s. The number of times I need to go in there do not necessitate a hotkey.

Don't you pull out the backup key before giving the fob to valet?

All have different ways/taste.
Me I like a change sometimes, after mood, or driving style (match the instrument cluster perhaps).
Or to match the color of my underwear.

I'm actually using gesture control to Nav home, and then:

1: nav to work
2: got some...
3: ... radio presets..
4: ... ... to switch between
5: trip computer
6: tpms (will probably replace to smth else soon)
7: ambient light

I programmed the buttons and then lost them due to Head unit coding.

However I found that most could be selected with a voice command. Now i just say "Tyre Pressure" "Sport Display" "Radio 2" etc . I will program the buttons again later for non voice stuff.
