20" Alloys - White Spots

Has anyone every noticed any white marking on their wheels? I noticed them the other day when i was cleaning the car and they cannot be removed. I don't know if it is lacquer that is damaged or it is a flaw in the wheel?

Any ideas?

If you can't rub them off with a damp cloth, i'm assuming it's lacquer damage. Do you use these wheels when they salt the roads?

Strange that a lot of it is on the painted surface and not the diamond cut face.

Have they been refurbished before?

Looks like the clear coat might be coming off.

I use the wheels all year round so they have been used when the roads are salty, not been refurbished before.

Is there anyway to fix it?

At worst they need prep'ing and a new clear coat. I'm no expert though! Could be that t-cut might help to polish it out - or just a car polish which is probably less aggressive than t-cut.

Have you been using car washes, maybe the ones where guys spray fluid on the wheels and clean by hand?

Looks like water calcium deposits (water marks)....that is unless the 'spots' are the lacquer blistering, then they will need refurbing.

If they are water marks then a clay bar or fine scratch remover like Meguairs 'Scratch X' should remove them and then they will require a wheel wax applied for protection.

Any updates on this? Have you managed to remove those white spots?

I would side with saying that they are water spots. I have the same wheels (and paint color). I see these spots when the water drys on my wheels after a car wash. Usually while I am drying the car some of these will appear on the wheels. I spray a quick detailer (V07) on a clean microfiber and they come right off. Making sure to buff off extra product. Once clean you might be able to use something like Max Coat Clear Guard to seal them up.

Have you checked to see if this covered under warranty?

i agree with this. dry the wheels and then coat them. even just a quick spray wax will help minimize these going forward. I use collinite 845 wax on the face and barrels in the spring when swapping over to summer wheels. even brake dust comes off with just a spray of the hose. highly recommended.
