Need FOB to open rear hatch? Programmable?
I find it mildly annoying that I can't open the rear hatch when the doors are unlocked, but only when the key FOB is close by. Is this something that can be programmed?

You are able to open the rear hatch when all the doors are unlocked. Check your lock settings in iDrive. You can set it to open just the driver door or all doors when you unlock the car. The rear hatch can't be opened until all the doors are unlocked.

I had that set, but I think it happens when we park our car and we exit using door handles (without all-unlock option). I need to code it to unlock all doors when engine's off I guess.

What annoys me is that you have to continue to hold the button in, as the lid stops moving if i stop depressing the button.

I believe it's all the do with SAFETY issues in different countries.
In the USA they don't have the close hatch via the key fob activated (BMW USA standard). America see's it as a safety risk I suppose. For England and I think europe it is allowed to close the trunck via the key-fob BUT ONLY when holding the key continuously in. Again safety reasons. Against clamping your fingers / body parts between the car and the truck. |

Not close. I'm talking about opening it. Like you leave the car in the garage then later go back to get something from the trunk but can't open it because you don't have the key on you.
