Replacing trunk lid power lifts
I recently posted a problem that I had with my 2011 X3. I opened my trunk to find that the lid had become twisted and would not close. The reason was because the power supports had failed and were not coordinated. One measured longer than the other twisting the lid when they operated together.
Removing the supports was easy but removing the wiring was not. I assume that these supports fail on a regular basis and I would ask if anybody reading this post can help me if there is an easier way to undo & reconnect the wiring on each support. To avoid having to remove the roof covering could I sever the wires close to the support and reconnect the new wiring rather than tracing it to the connector? Finally, I have checked on-line and it appears that the cost will be close to $500US for the pair. Does anybody know of a less expensive supply? |

Just unplug and tie a string on it when you pull the plug out. Attach new plug, pull though. Hardest part was wiggling a square connector out a round hole - but still only took me 30 minutes start to finish. Should be able to just pull the corner down to get to it. Have patience...
