Replacing mirror caps
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com I am leaning towards removing the mirror glass and just being super careful and slow in utilizing a wide trim tool to avoid putting too much pressure on one point of the glass and potentially cracking it. If anyone has simply removed the caps with a trim tool without taking the glass off, can you please provide pictures of where you started? And what tool you used? I would like to ensure I don't scratch the caps when taking them off, hence why I'm thinking going through the glass and going slow may be the best bet. Thanks in advance! |

My plan to do the same is to start by removing the mirrors. For me, i have no choice due to the retrofit i'm doing, not just the outer caps.
There are few online how-to's on removing the mirrors from the housing. The TIS also helped. |

I removed the mirror on each side when I swapped out the covers. All in all an easy job, just take your time and go slow, you'll be fine.

I swapped my mirror caps out without touching the mirror glass at all. Super easy and took no time. I took a lot of pics to show where to put the pry tool and I had zero scratches or damage doing it.

I just broke my passenger side mirror glass when I was swapping out the mirror caps. Anyone happen to know how much it's going to cost to fix this or where I can buy an OEM glass with blind-spot detection?

I removed the driver's side successfully but seems like I used out all my luck today after replacing the front grills. I just ordered the glass from getBMWparts, hope everything turns out well. I have to say, the cost of that small piece of glass is not small at all. Couldn't imagine how much my dealer gonna charge me if I take it to the shop. |
